Faq ''leak''

Not releasing the FAQ in that form could be a strong deterrence for leaking. It would essentially tell anyone who leaks info "hey, go ahead and do it, but if you do, it's guaranteed to not happen as you leaked."

Leaving you game in an imbalanced state with the players bellowing about existing problems and not fixing them, just to catch one leaker?

Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face...

I mean sure, they could do something...but if its not significant, whats the difference?

I want to believe they have enough time and energy to do that, but I have my doubts.

I'm not claiming they've done so in this case, but it is notable that FFG has in fact done this sort of thing before, with Netrunner...

I think you nailed it: TIE punisher is the only bomber in the game with access to Fire-Control System, making it the shootiest of ordnance platforms. I think FFG was being conservative in how they costed this thing, knowing it could launch ordnance every round for 6 rounds. Unfortunately, that never happens because it gets shot to space dust before the 3rd ordnance, if not before the 2nd. This makes B-wings just as good at torpedo attack runs as TIE punishers, and they haven't exactly been prominent on the field as torpedo launchers.

I don't think there was wonton carelessness in the design/costing of the TIE punisher, but I think it's fair to say it was a miss. It would be really nice if it had something special, like how K-wings have SLAM and TIE strikers have Adaptive Ailerons.

Should've had re-enforce. Or a white k-turn/sloop. Or...something.

Action independent faceup reinforce token

Really, I'd be happy if the punisher had boost-focused action economy.

Had an interesting chat with somebody who often finds himself knowing things, and that the FAQ probably won't happen.

Releasing the FAQ would mean admitting there's a leak to Disney, which they can't do, and the easiest solution is potentially to leave the FAQ as a rumour somebody made up online.

So just to save face they leave the game in a bad way...sounds like every business ever. As long as they do something about JM5K's I don't really care if they scrap the rest. Mindlink is pretty much fine without jumps to abuse it. Adv Slam could use a tweak but I thought the action bar thing was dumb considering it was made to slam and drop bombs.

Or, any kind of game changing errata, they are waiting to release until Store Championships are over.

At least until after Gencon...

why do people believe that FFG sabatojing their own game to "save face" is more likely than some dude guessing or making up a leak? this isnt real guys

I don't think many people really believe that, I just think it's some people rumor-mongering for some effin reason.

Game companies are going to try to make a game the best way they possibly can. They may (will) get something wrong from time to time, and then they will try to fix it, again, in the best way they possibly can.

I mean, seriously.

Quote

"Well, we've researched and determined the best way to possibly fix our game at this point, but because someone leaked it, we are going to instead implement this sub-optimal change that doesn't really fix the problem in what would be the best possible manner as that research has determined.

Because someone was a naughty boy on the forums."

So... any word from the original leaker or poster of this leak since it happened? Some kind of ETA on the dropping of this new FAQ? Any new additions?

The longer the silence, the less faith I have of this actually being a thing.

I can't even find the original thread on Reddit anymore

You already know what the ETA on the FAQ is. It always wrappes up for release 1 week before a major tournament.

The details can change every week beween now and then, because they're trying to figure out the most fair version of the nerf- IE: Keeping Attani Brobots but killing parattani, or nerfing biggs without crippling half the rebel fleet.

1) because he had proof just didn't make it public, though it was verified by a mod on Reddit as legit

2) because no prominent community member (or playtester) as ever referred to this as a 'rumour' but as a leak

3) because so many people (myself included) had independently heard the same FAQ errata info from multiple other sources way ahead of the leak.

That's not quite true, the leaker said he has a mate who is a playtester, and I believe that it was this relationship that was confirmed by the Reddit mod, as opposed to the mod validating the source of his information.

At best, I'd consider this list of errata to be a list of ideas for changes that are being trialed as opposed to the content of a finished FAQ article that FFG are just waiting to publish.

The impression I got was that the leaker showed the redit mod a copy of a FFG playtest packet.

I do actually. Also, I want as many eyes as possible on this stuff before it comes out.

Too many times we see people wondering how something slipped through the playtest phase.

Too many times we hear " well, who could have known what combos the players would have come up with" (dengaroo, patattani, triple torp boats,)

Edit/added...

Just locking down the test group as you mentioned above I agree would be a perfectly fine way to handle this as well.

Re edit again...

Wait...they would still leak to their buddies so that doesn't work.

It has to be public.

The reason things get through is that the people testing are not professional testers. They are designers and gamers. More eyes actually hurts the chances of the truly degenerate edge cases getting caught due to the aforementioned signal/noise problem. The forums are wrong way more often than they are right (Kylo crew kills X-Wing anyone?) so how can you know when they are right?

You test properly. I'm not going to bore people to death explaining fundamental test principals and practices here, but it's a long way from throw lists together and play them.

On the subject of testers telling their friends about upcoming changes, I just don't buy that as a problem. A tiny minority of players in a small geographical area might hear about something early? How much does that really warp the competitive scene? Also, for egregious cases you have the sanction of the person responsible loosing their job which, unlike loosing play testing privileges, is genuinely meaningful.

^^^ this.

Based on what antigrapist posted on reddit in that thread, he was in any case shown enough proof to convince him the leak is legit.

a mod on reddit and no proof is no proof. whether a rumor is called a rumor by the people spreading it does not mean anything if it remains unsubstantiated. nothing you just mentioned is evidence of anything, and there is some evidence this isnt real(like unprecidented types of change and wording). if someone presents documentation from FFG or FFG admits its a leak, then youve got some ground to stand on.

based on the criteria you just laid out the Earth is flat, our government is run by lizard people, and we all live in a holographic prison. just because mods on reddit say so and thousands of people swear its true doesnt mean it is

It's true. All of it. For the reasons SOT says above. I am sorry Von but the sand is down and the sky is up here :( I renew my call for public playtesting of JUST the FAQ!

Um.. Can't tell if sarcasm or genuine discomfort

Neither! I just want public testing if the FAQ, so I am feeling ... rallying ? :) Edit: maybe you meant about the quote? I think SOT genuinely has it right in his above quote.

I'm not sure the exact changes will be released as written. They might be, but they might be last-minute-changed at this point too.

I am, however, absolutely convinced that you might wanna steer clear of Jumpmaster torppedo boats for your big official tournament squads for a wee while... but I've been saying that since before the leak anyway. :)

The new rule of the meta is: If something's broken, it's gonna be FAQ'd days before the most prestigious event possible. Because "Diversity".
