Sure, but I spent a lot less than you did on my 20 paper turrets!

FYI, there is a KS with Trench Run Terrain running right now that gives you everything you need that is 3D Printed
All the resin options look incredible but I would always rather spend that money on more ships to pew pew with.
Thanks for your help.
What about how to construct the trench!
I've played on resin 3D plates for the trench before. It looks pretty but the raised bits are a bit of an annoyance when actually playing on it.

I found some graphics off Google that let me make a play mat for the top of the death star. I used a work printer to print it all out. Our game store has a bunch of table toppers for Warhammer that we used. We just stacked them on both sides of the trench and actually had a 3D trench you went down in. The only downside for that is you really need a bunch of rulers or plexiglass to put over the trench for those guys that aren't diving in, but land on top of it. I might have a picture somewhere... Oh, wait. Photobucket pulled a ransomware stunt. I can't share my photos unless I pay $400/year. Nevermind.
If you are going to play a trench run game, I would recommend checking out Dagobah Dave's Trench Run Scenario! By the end of the thread, we even got Dagobah Dave to update it!
I'll keep my comments regarding scenery to myself. It's hard, but I shall prevail.
For my trench run board, I compromised - I found some great graphics to print and mount to a wood board but reduced the depth of the trench to avoid needing sheets to run across it. Instead, we use small wood blocks to elevate ships flying over the trench.
There are some photos of the board over on BoardGameGeek here:

I was just gonna say I was old fashioned but wood is cheap, easy to assemble and far more durable than paper ?

Wood is cheap, yes. Still need paper if you want it to look cool. Unless you are truly awesome. I built mine with wood, some 1"x2.5"x2' boards to act like legs and the interior trench wall, and 2'x3'x1/8" board to act as the playing surface. Kinda glued them like an "F" pattern...
Still needed the printed paper to glue to the surface to make it look pretty, and more to lay out on the table to use as the trench floor.

I was looking at these and they seemed small with not a lot of detail. You can get free downloads of really nice turrets elsewhere I think.

How much bigger do they need to be realistically?

The paper ones seemed to be the right scale. Well at least for me. You can always upscale or downscale something you're printing. It's really a matter of taste, that and of course resolution and detail.
The Taim & Bak XX-9 heavy turbo laser (from Death Star fame) as far as my research has taken me has no official dimensions mentioned. Its subjective to size. But, we have lot of choices so whatever works.
A lot of these 3d printed ones being sold are too expensive for me with how few turrets you get. Love the origami paper ones though, and as mentioned, you can blow up the size of them.
If you print then here are some turrets and a shield generator by different people. All are free:
Death Star Turbo Laser (repaired and separated)
Death Star Laser Turret - Destroyed
imperial shield generator (x-wing)
[Edit] P.S. someone has 3d files for HotAC. Does anyone have a link for that?

If you purchase the torrents and beacon combo on the KS they are $2/each which is the only reason I am backing.
