Efficiency Insight - Rebels

By Futura, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I have been looking at running two Rebel lists, but I am not sure which is more effective in the long run. I love the new Intensity Poe build, and I have always wanted to run a triple X-Wing list, but I have also had a crush on A-Wings since I first saw Return of the Jedi. Below are the two list I have put together with the sips I have. I think they are both pretty solid lists, but I wanted to see what insight and insight the community had on them. I know they are both pretty simple and straight forward, but I am still learning the ropes!

BLACK SQUADRON I

100 points

PILOTS

Poe Dameron (PS9 Version) (41)
T-70 X-Wing (33), Black One (1), BB-8 (2), Primed Thrusters (1), Intensity (2), Autothrusters (2)

Jake Farrell (31)
A-Wing (24), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Proton Rockets (3), Veteran Instincts (1), Push the Limit (3)

Jess Pava (28)
T-70 X-Wing (25), M9-G8 (3), Integrated Astromech (0)

OR

BLACK SQUADRON II

100 points

PILOTS

Poe Dameron (PS9 Version) (41)
T-70 X-Wing (33), Black One (1), BB-8 (2), Primed Thrusters (1), Intensity (2), Autothrusters (2)

Nien Nunb (31)
T-70 X-Wing (29), Targeting Astromech (2), Trick Shot (0), Integrated Astromech (0)

Jess Pava (28)
T-70 X-Wing (25), M9-G8 (3), Integrated Astromech (0)

I'm not sure if the 5 dice with re-roll salvo from Jake is more cost effective, or Nien shedding stress and re-rolling shots at point blank (potentially) every turn is.

What are your thoughts?

Are you getting the best out of Jess's ability in a three ship list?

To be honest, yes. 2 rerolls are more than enough to make her effective; as long as she has a wingman she'll pull her weight.

I'd be hesitant to use her in the first squad, though: Intensity/BB-8 Poe Dameron, and Jake Farrel, do not fly in straight lines .

Keeping her within range 1 of either of these two aces is going to be bloody difficult.

If I wanted an ideal wingmate for her, I'd probably go with Red Ace - he makes a second ideal go-up-the-centre T-70. Red Ace, R2-D2, Comms Relay and Integrated Astromech, plus a Hyperwave Comm Scanner for Jess (starting Red Ace's comms relay enabled and allowing her to deploy at PS6) is still cheaper than the Poe build you've got listed, allowing a few other upgrades (maybe a torpedo or two?)

Personally and with Jake as my most flown ship in total I'd rather take autothrusters than prockets/cruisemissiles on him.

You'll understand after you barely dodged 10+ shots against turrets in a game!

I'm flying almost the same with Poe/Jake and a gold squadron Y-Wing at 26points. Well worth it if you have the upgrades. You can also swap the missile on Jake with R2D2+CommRelay on Poe, which is better but a less fun IMO.

But if you insist on another X-Wing and don't want Biggs:

You could give Jess+R2D6+A score to settle a chance, which frees up 2 points. I would not fly Jess with these wingmen though, because they won't stay close enough.

Another X-Wing option is Tarn Mison +M9G8 for 26, or Hobbie+Targeting for 27.

Hmm, I like the idea of adding in a Y-Wing in place of Jess. Maybe something like this:

Poe Dameron (PS9 Version) [Black One, BB-8, Primed Thrusters, Intensity, Autothrusters] (41)

Jake Farrell [A-Wing Test Pilot, Proton Rockets, Veteran Instincts, Autothrusters, Push the Limit] (33)

Gold Squadron Pilot [R2 Astromech, Twin Laser Turret] (25)

That puts me at 99 points, and gets Jake both Autothrusters and Proton Rockets.
