Mimicked Vs Brobots

By Nspace, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Smitty's thread Mimicked Vs Injured Pilot got me wondering: If I Mimic one of the IG-2000 titled Brobots, will I mimic both (or all) of the Brobots pilot skills? The text of the IG-2000 title for reference: "You have the pilot ability of each other friendly ship with the IG-2000 Upgrade Card". And the relevant part of Mimicked: "Thweek is now treated as having your pilot ability"

Looking at the wording of the two cards, I'd think that Thweek would duplicate all of the Brobots pilot skills, since each IG-88 has the ability of each other IG-88. But the FAQ says that the IG-88's lose each others skills when one is destroyed, while Mimicked specifically prevents that from happening to Thweek, so that makes me wonder if Mimicked is intended to works differently than the IG-2000 title.

Seems valid to me. Seeing and Thweek doesn't have a cannon hardpoint, though, it will never really be OP.

I could see an argument that Thweek only gets the original ability as Tweeks ability reads in such a way that you only get that abilities owned by that ship.

The IG 2000 title grants the aggressor another pilot ability from another ship but it does not grant ownership of the ability if you catch my drift.

Could see it going either way but I wouldn't be unhappy if Thweek got both abilities.

Edit: Just reread the IG 2000 title, it just straight up says you have the other ability rather than gain them, so yeah most likely you get both abilities with Thweek.

I think you're right and he will get both, but in that case if you have more than one IG, and one is destroyed will you get to keep all abilities, mimicked sais you get to keep the pilot ability even if the ship is destroyed. Or does it matter which one is destroyed.

Say you run IGA +C + thweek, and thweek copies A, if C is destroyed do you lose the pilot ability since you copy A, and A only has A's ability at that point, on the other hand if A is destroyed, will you get to keep both as it doesn't matter if the ship you copy is destroyed you will still keep it's ability, which would be both or do you keep both no matter which one is destroyed?

To answer the OP, I'm siding that you get both/all IG-88 abilities.

But to answer the second question I believe that if Thweek copies IGA (who has in turn copied IGC) Thweek would loose the IGC ability if IGC were to be destroyed, but RETAIN the abilities of both if IGA were to be destroyed.

The reasoning is that, since you are copying A, you are still subject to his limitations, so if C is removed you all loose the ability to copy him (and IGA looses it as well). As per Thweek's ability, it is explicitly stated that even if the target is destroyed you retain the Mimicked ability.

While I understand the concensus that he would get both, on first blush pass, the truth is, actually reading Thweek, Mimicked, and IG-2000, along with how they are used in context to relevant FAQ's shows that Thweek wouldn't get both IG-88 ability.

1. The word "your". FFG in the past as ruled that "you" and "your" refers to the specific ship, not anything on it or relayed from another ship/ability/card. (See Omega Leader + Palp => Palp can modify an evade die on a OL target locked ship)

2. Since Thweek places Mimicked before the place forces step, the question becomes when does the IG-2000 title start to "work". FFG has shown that some EPT/abilities work before place forces step (Epsilon Ace and VI to name a couple) and others (Adaptability) only works after the place forces step. One can argue that because of the way IG-2000 title works it wouldn't come into play until the ships are in play (during/after) the place forces step. Specifically, when an IG-88 with the title card is destroyed (remove from the table), the other IG-88 loses the pilot ability that was granted via the title. Since the title only works on ships in play, before the place forces step, there is no other ship for the IG-2000 title to work with.

As a side note, this would only work well for IG-A,C,D. The Starviper doesn't have a cannon slot so IG-88B doesn't work anyway. So, in a standard play game, the only IG-88 that would affect Thweek would be the other IG-88. Because, as we know, when running brobots the standard is IG-88B and another IG of the players flavor. Very few players would play Brobots without IG-88B.
