Silence the Guns--LOS!

By RMCBRIDE01, in Tide of Iron

Just got done w/silence the guns too. Had a problem understanding LOS & all the hills.

Q1--If your on Level 2 hill, with Level 1 hill in frt of you, do you have LOS to enemy unit @ base of hill on Level 0 terrain, or does it follow the 2 or 3 space LOS behind blocking terrain rule? & visa versa for the unit @ L0 space to have LOS to the L2 space?

Q2--Plateau rule-- If your on the 2nd space from the edge if the hill (L1) you have a plateau in frt of you. The example says you have no LOS! Does that mean for every space beyond the Plateau to the end of the game board if there is no adtl blocking terrain except the one plateau space in frt of you, or does it follow the LOS after the third space as if the plateau space in frt of you is just blocking terrain like a forest tile would?

Q3--If you are on either an L2 or L1 hill, there are 2-3 spaces of L0, then 1-2 spaces of an L1 hill & your enemy is on the other side of the L1 hill, is it possible to have direct LOS if he is on the 3rd space beyond the second hill or is it blocking terrain no matter how many spaces behind the second hill he is?

I guess this is the 1st scenario I've played w/this type of hill arrangement & both of us playing really searched the rules & had trouble coming up w/ good answers! Can any of you help me & give some like scenario positions & /or easy to understand LOS rules in these situations? Thanx, Rod

1- pg26 example- I would think that is yes. Basically, your looking straingt down the hill.

2-page25 "Firing across a plateuThe way it is written its not very descriptive as to 'How far". I would think common sense would dictate it to be at least three spaces beyond the plateau. House rule it.

3-I would say if your on L2 yes, if your on L1, noMy opinion. I just makes notes to myself on those rule pages as to what seems logical and fair.

is that right to q 1 there is los to the base of a hill u are looking down hill

I've re-red that ten times, and i think i was wrong in my answer. I think Trooper on level O would have to be out 2 spaces fro line of sight. Every time i read it i see it in a different way. preocupado.gif

yes me 2 and im still not shore common sense says you can see them. and the rules just dont explaine a unit looking down a hill from level 2 with a level 1 hill in front and a unit on level 0. maybe thay never put it in as it was common sence

the way i understand elevation is this.

draw an imaginary line between the firing unit and the target unit, then

1. is there any blocking terrain between the two?

if yes what is the height difference between the the firing unit and the target unit ?

if the height difference is 2 the only the hex behind the blocking terrain is blocked

if the height difference is 1 then the 2 hex's behind the blocking terrain are blocked.

in your example

Hex1 Hex2 Hex3 Hex4

Firing unit Target unit

Hill level 2 Hill level 1 ground (level 0)

blocked (from unit in Hex 3) Blocked ( from unit in hex 1) not Blocked (from unit in hex 1)

a unit placed on hex 2 (hill level 1 could fire at both units in hexes 1 and 3 )

thats how i interpret it

rmcbrideo asked on q2 the plateato rule does that mean for every space to the end of the board it there is no blocking space
