What is the scariest Imperial for 25 points?

By LagJanson, in X-Wing

Pure Sabaac. It's 25 points of ship you ignore at your own peril.

Doesn't that kind of answer the question then. Squeeze one point out elsewhere and add Omega.

Normally, yeah. Not today. I'm doing something crazy.

Love me my VI/aileron pure sabacc.

How are you hitting anything with her? I mean, without a TL, are you really rolling enough paint to make it cout? That's my issue with the Striker. Unless I PTL a TL/Focus, I just cannot hit anything consistently with the Striker's 3 dice attack.

Honestly three or four dice with a Focus half the time does enough damage across the game; she's never the biggest threat in the list. It's more a matter of how rarely she's shot at. She's singlehandedly taken down a TLT Ghost simply by always being able to stick to the blind spots.

Took a few turns, mind.

There are limits to my crazy, of course...

Wampa. 14 points were never feared so much. Dark Curse is still a royal pain for 16 points.

I also like Gamma Sq Vets with Homing Missiles and Crackshot. Season to taste with Chimps or LRS.

Oh grad dang it, you fluffy wookie. Now I can't get this build out of my head. If I'm flying Fel's Wrath next week it's your fault.

Dark Curse is one of the few TIE/ln's I think still has some place in today's game as its defensive ability does not remove all forms of modification, but many of them, preventing all forms of rerolls, and preventing focus token stacking from helping too much. Still, most focus result conversions, like Expertise or RAC, work against him.

I fly him in a list I have that uses Hux to allow the 2-die primary attack to be a threat with Fanatical Devotion making one hit possibly unavoidable, while an Evade token + 3 Agility + his Pilot Ability gives him reasonable staying power. Plink, plink, plink. He's not very intimidating though.

Wampa will get someone's attention, however, and fast.

Omicron Group Pilot, Electronic Baffle, Rebel Captive. (Or tactician + 1 point - tac jammer / recruit / tractor beam... many options)

The ability to gain TLs with FCS is insignificant compared to the power of turning to aim at your target.

Also, collision detector sigma squadron phantom - cloak early, let it slide in behind the enemies or lead them on a wild goose chase while the rest of your forces harrass, get it in the right spot and bam... or pure sabaac

I've actually flown four Sigma's in a tournament. It's wicked fun to watch an opponent go "AHHH!" as I deploy them. It also ends the match quickly, one way or another. Lot of hard counters, but the match ends fast enough that you generally don't get too frustrated about it.

If you do and win (and can prove a win) , let me know, I'll send you one of these (and it'll have an l on the unti)

Completely forgot about the striker

LWF sabecc and VI (rey, miri, norra, dash, asajj, terry etc.) is 25 points

Only gets you to PS8, though. Not bad, but...Duchess + Adaptability + title + LWF is also 25 pts, and PS9. Or 7, up to you. The ability to selectively use the pre-maneuver boost at PS9 is...pretty nice.

Yeah, 5x Alpha Autocepters is kind of the same thing. Nobody expects to see 5 Interceptors across the table, and the match goes one way or the other...very quickly.

Zeta Specialist with Title, Collision Detector and Lightweight Frame

Was kicking around TFA-era lists, and came to this one.

You can get four of these in a list. The voidstate builder says nobody has flown that list before, but...really? Everything but LWF comes with the TIE/sf kit, and that one you'll get four of once you have a pair each of Strikers and Aggressors. It seems a pretty easy list to build?

More or less most the time (unless you don't need it) you'll be managing 3-attack and 3-agility over 3-hull and 3-shields. (And can switch that 3-attack out for 2-front/2-back if the situation warrants) - that's TIE Defender levels of kick, and defense, for enough of a discount to get 4 in a list.

Omega Leader with A Score To Settle is a very nice idea, I'll have to try that one.

Zeta Leader with Wired and Weapons Guidance also delivers a very impressive punch for a TIE fighter; trigger his ability, spend focus on a blank, then reroll a focus.... delivers three hits surprisingly reliably for a ship with only 2 dice!

Veteran Instincts, Lightweight Frame, Adaptive Ailerons Pure Sabbac just delivers a lot of pain for a reasonable cost.

Countdown with Title and TIE Mk II. or Lightweight Frame. Comes in at 21 or 22pts. With his ability you have to focus fire him otherwise it'll take 4 rounds to kill and generally if your focusing on Countdown your having a bad time.

Something that smashes Countdown is the TLT. Which is coming back bigger than Ben Hur nowadays.
