While putting away the new wave I took another look at my U-wing model and thought, "this needs to see the table." So I asked, "did the latest wave give me any tools to make a list viable to play at a LFGS or on vassal (that will certainly encounter meta lists) but still be fun to fly?"
I came up with the following that incidentally lets me put a the HWK on the table, a ship I also wish was more playable.
Cassian Andor 27
Rage 1
Adv. Sensors 3
Inspiring Recruit 1
Kyle Katarn 3
Pivot Wing 0
Jan Ors 25
Wired 1
TLT 6
Lowhhrick 28
Rage 1
Experimental Interface 3
Inspiring Recruit 1
Chopper 0
This rings in at 100. The idea is to keep Lowhhrick and Jan up front and adv. sens. rage with cassian; do a green into a bump and take 2 more focus tokens from kyle. Jan can pump either Low or Cass by 1 attack die for 2 3-5 fully modified red dice attacks along with Jan's TLT. Lowhhrick has the ability to help Jan or Kyle (both squishy even with focus(s) for defense) if I can hold range (hard with a large base).
Wired usually pairs well with Jan but in this case she is taking the stress later in the turn (ps6 or 5) and it didn't do much in the one match I played with it. (Beat 51pt VI/Rey Dash and 48pt Corran). If I owned another IR I would throw it on Lowwhrick so I am debating what to do with the point. Nein for the Greens?
I still cant help but feel that the U-wing should have been strait support with a 2 dice attack on a small base at a lower point cost able to fly in formation with say an x-wing squadron. As is they cost too many points to not need them in the fight; and the large base and timing of pivot wing makes keeping opponents in arc hard at best.
Thoughts?
