Experience in tournaments w/ Jabba and Vizago?

By FisherSpassky, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Ok, so I've read up and think that I understand there is no clear cut ruling on these two issues:

1. What happens to the illicit tokens Jabba grants after he dies/gets discarded (Boba Fett'd)?

2. What is the interaction between Vizago and Cloaking Device?

I'm not really asking for any resolution here. What I would like to know is: Have any of you tried to run this in a tournament, and if so, what was the ruling/feedback from the TO? I'm playing in my first tournament on Saturday, would really like to run a list with Jabba and Vizago, but it's a list that goes to hell if their abilities are null and void. Any real-world feedback or other advice would be really helpful.

1) This has been the root of many debate. I am on the side of when Jabba dies, the tokens become moot and can no longer be used for their effect. My reasoning is that the rules state when a ship dies, all its cards are no longer in play. The ability to spend tokens is based on Jabba's card ability so if that card is no longer in play, the tokens have no mechanic. HOWEVER, the rules on this are not clear so one could make a valid case for the opposite because the rulebook that comes with the C-ROC says just refer to Jabba's card when you can spend the tokens. So its a bit ambiguous. I bet this will part of the next FAQ.

2) I cannot find the link but someone did post where the game designer said you stay cloaked but we need something official from FFG on that.

Related: You do not get a token because you only get tokens at the moment Jabba is equipped because Jabba reads... "When you equip THIS card..."

Have you attempted to run any/all at of this at a tournament though? What I really need is practical advice – They probably will/won't rule a certain way.

The best advice is to contact the TO beforehand and enquire from them as to how they will be ruling these cards. There's a lot of debate about both questions, so it's not really possible to say what to expect.

That makes sense. I did ask a few questions at the store (not my FLGS, so a bit of an unknown), and the guy who signed me up seemed a little clueless.

Still curious if others have tried to run it, and to what end.

Find out who the TO is going to be and ask them. Some will rule differently than others. For mine I ruled jabba does not work when removed and you can stay cloaked. You would not get a token in your second post.

The New England stores all seem to be running off of a local FAQ they put together, which answers all of the questions we've seen to the best of their ability, understanding that there is a caveat for FFG making any alternate rulings.

Asking us is, and I don't mean to be rude, a waste of time.

Ask the TO (not the clerk or whomever is at the store, the actual TO of the event) before hand. Worst case scenario, they really have no idea; at least you've given them the window to figure it out.

Remember, not every TO is an X-Wing player, so their rulings may be off the mark from anywhere else.

Yes... we had a player bring Jabba and it caused a pretty big debate. The most of which is how Jabba himself is worded and who can spend the tokens, but I wont open that can of worms, but just play it with how your local TO rules and wait for FFG to clear it up.

Thanks all, I'll see if I can get a hold of the local TO.
