Posting Pictures

Any advice on the best way to upload pictures? Every time I try it says they are too big.

IMGUR.com

Or instagram.

There is another trick....I do it every time.

When you take a photo on a digital camera or phone, due to the high pixel rate most pics these days come out between 3-4 mg (megabytes)

what I do is reduce the size of the photo in Microsoft paint " yes it is still and will be still available on windows 10".

open the photo up in Paint, in the top left corner you have an option to reduce image size.

you can drop it from 100% down to 50% or more.

I reduce my pics down to 40% of there original size, the photos are still very large and good quality

but they are now around 200- 400 KB (killer-bytes).............small file size but still great quality pic !

another option is Photoshop.

there is an option in Photoshop to reduce the size of the photos for internet use and display.

but I just find the Microsoft Paint option easier.

I'm not sure if any of the image uploading services will reduce the photos, but if you reduce the size of the photos before

uploading them, you will get more if there is a file size limit on the upload.

unless like me you pay a small yearly fee, or monthly fee.

but most sights are free with a limited file size.

And on that note, with hundreds of people leaving Photobucket in droves.......hopefully they will get severely stung

for the way they treated paying and none paying customers with there bribery demands

Awful business practice.

Hope that info helps and good luck uploading your photos :D

All the best,

Barry.

Following up with what Barry said, the format of the image can greatly effect the size, and quality, of the image. For instance, .bmp and .png images are larger in file size than a comparable .jpg. When working with a site that has size limits, or other situations where file size matters more than image fidelity, you can convert the image to a .jpg and shave the file size down while losing a small bit of image quality.

How do you post from instagram?

I do it by going to my account (https://www.instagram.com/ledhangar/) and then right clicking on one of the picture series, selecting "copy link address," and then paste it in here like so:
