Vancouver anyone?

By warmdown, in X-Wing Organized Play

Hey guys,

I'm new to the game and looking for some people to meet up and play against and learn the game better

I already checked facebook a little bit, but beside once a week on Thursday at Strategies Games & Hobbies I couldn't find anything else.

So feel free to write here or per pm!

Cheers!

WA or BC

Strategies Games & Hobbies is located in Vancouver BC... but I would think the best bet might be to go to that once a week casual night on Thursday, introduce yourself, and ask about other local venues/group.

As much as these FFG forums are useful, a majority of SW miniatures players don't check here all that often.

The good Vancouver or the bad Vancouver?

BC :P didnt know that there is another one in CA - I'm not from here

Washington... there is a Vancouver in British Columbia and one in Washington...

And for those in the greater Seattle area... we know them both pretty well since we live pretty much halfway between them.

so which one is the bad vancouver?

I'm a fairly new (Scum) player in Vancouver. I saw a casual game event posted on Facebook at the Railway Club in downtown Vancouver so I called in last night. There were 3 games going on , and I played a couple. Quite a good atmosphere and some helpful players there. I think the night will run from 5pm on Sundays. I played until around 9 and left.

Added the time I played

I help Run the Railway night that was mentioned above, it's a "beer league", and it's super casual but a lot of fun. Basically just drop in, grab a pint, find a match and go for it. We will be running tournaments eventually, but if you just want to hang, learn a few things (certainly not from me but there are some people there) and enjoy a few cold ones, you're more than Welcome. My name's Damon, you can't miss me. Come say hi, your first frosty one is on me. Also we've made these upgrade cards, for some reason @cmsamo keeps flying off the board...

You Sir! live in Cascadia.

and there are two Vancouvers in Cascadia! There is also no California in Cascadia! We all know there is a good and bad one and no one is crude enough to mention witch but that is a little off topic. We do mention which one is good and bad though.

I saw that event on Facebook, but unfortunately couldn't make it last Sunday. It's in my calendar for this week and I will definitely try to come around this time!

Beer and x-wing one could not ask for more ..

Was a fun night! Thanks for the games!

Washington is the original site of Ft. Vancouver of the Hudson's Bay Company. Mc.Loughan ordered a scourge of the beaver population and moved to the British Columbia above the 54th parallel in response to an American land dispute with Canada over how much territory belong with the US. The whole 54th or fight slogan (also the same time as the pigs and potatoes war).

Well there's also Vancouver Island which Vancouver the Canadian city is located near, but not on. Then there's Vancouver Washington, the last stop before Oregon.

So 3 Vancouvers to be aware of in Cascadia.

Then there's us down in Bellingham WA trying to make sense of it all.

YES! Was a great night, we have a solid crew and it's growing each week. We're running out of playmats! (if anybody is planning on coming bring a spare if you can) As always, your first pint is on me, and we have some great plans for a league for the fall. We should have 6 - 8 Games at a time happening this week, and if you want to stay a bit longer, you might be able to get in three!

Hello warmdown! It sounds like you're in the X-Wing Western Canada facebook group - if not, we'll have to add you. Plenty of X-Wing gets arranged through there.

I play at Ages 3 & Up, a shop near Lougheed Mall. They do X-Wing on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Out towards Abbostford, Nerd Haven has a games night on Sunday night. And of course, Strategies is always a good place to play on Thursday nights.

I've not been to the others, but I will say the Strategies crew are about the nicest group of guys you'll ever come across, I highly recommend that spot. Also X-wing Western Canada is super informative, even got me some bomblet generator tokens from a post there. Now if somebody could only a post some tips for me on how to not to take a 5 damage hit from Fenn EVERY FREAKING TIME that would be splendid...

yeha I'm in that group. I was the guy who was asking for a original core set

I went to strategies once -it was fun and busy, but usually I'm not back from work when they play, and Ages3&up is a to far away.

Which is the reason why I only can make it to the sunday meet ups at the railway with @GaminDamon and some others which is pretty cool!

Yeah, I haven't been able to make it to the Railway Club event, but I love that spot and I love beer, so mixing that with X-Wing sounds like it would be awesome.
