Hello, my brothers and I are fairly new to the game and play casually. I was wondering specifically when a Ship goes out of the play area and becomes destroyed should the other team receive the points from that ship? Again this is for when we are playing casually and just seeing who by the end of the night collected the most point value.
Play Area Question
In Rules Parlance, Yes.
Destroyed is Destroyed. No matter the reason behind the destruction.
Blown you up? The Enemy scores points for having Neutralised you.
Run away? Well, your enemy has neutralised you by getting you to run away.
Ram your own ship? Well, your enemy probably did most of the work if a ram killed you...
Its also a good learning-tool-punishment. Maneuver and commands, especially Navigate , is dreadfully important to learn how to use in Armada. Its a core game concept that needs focus on to be good players - even casually... So being "punished" by giving away points for flying off the board should be the norm - because it teaches you to play better.

This.
The very first Armada game I ever played was just the core. I played Rebels and my buddy played Empire. We both didn't have much of an idea of what we were doing, but we figured we would learn as we go. That VSD is a bear to control, and he never had any navigate commands. He was traveling at speed 2, and I got to deal him a face up damage card. He was unfortunate enough to receive "Thrust-Control Malfunction" and 2 rounds later his VSD went off the edge and I won.
We've played about 5 or so more games together since then and neither of us have ever forgotten that lesson. Navigate commands are never far from the tops of our command dials.
