I'm curious if the folks that make the game play the game.
Is there any evidence of that? Video or batrep of any kind?

Dunno if there';s videos of them playing, but if you listen to interviews they talk about playing it a lot
Right on. I'm old so I'm sure my memory is not great. I thought I've seen the interviews but I don't remember them discussing games they've played.
I'll have to review them.

The last (most recent?) interview had them talking about playing the game and playing some of the source games to get the feel for the ships, plus sourcing the lore.
I'll say they earned a lot of cred by me in that hour, because I also wondered how connected they were with the game and Star Wars in general.
I think FFG needs to do that a lot more to stay connected with the game's fans.

Some of the earlier interviews had them talking about playing in the game center on their lunch hour. I want to say there's also an interview with one of the developers by a noted Youtuber not long ago but like you I'm old and today have the benefit of a post surgery anesthetic high.
I'll say there is somewhere - I remember (a year or two back) that Alex Davy won a local store tournament. He was running a-wings. I couldn't find it in a web search, but I recall there being a photo... so I'll leave it up to the reader to search / fact check me. It doesn't mean they still play, but, I can't imagine they don't play. I'd say it's more likely that the FFG website preview article people don't play... (Though again, this is pure assumption)

If they do they sure like the Jumpy!
They can play the game but do they follow the meta ??? That's the bigger question.
If the reveal articles are any indication, there may be a need to clarify playing vs playing by the current rules lol
I picture the Devs rolling around in one of those windowless vans together, scoping out FLGS stores. They hop out, every last one of them sporting a Triple JM5K list- painted the same awful 1970s colors as the van.....They proceed to find the most inexperienced X-Wing players in the store and absolutely curb-stomp them without mercy, telling their hapless opponents to "Git Gud, Scrub!" As they leave, one of the Devs punches the owner in the stomach and empties the cash register..... then it's on to the next town. As they peel out of the parking lot their license plate reads: SCUMWNG
If you find any sort of evidence of the Nashtah Pup was played, then that's evidence that Alex Davy was playing.

I actually played a lot of games with a cheap suicidal yv666 and nashtah pup - the idea to block and force early targetting, figuring that it could do damage, and the earlier the z-95 came on board the field, the more value it could have... I did prove to myself that the pup has to come into play in early-mid game to be worth it.

Problem with it is that you're already losing when the Pup comes onto the table and the Z ain't gonna cut it.
That's off topic, but the joke was related to Davy saying in an interview Once how he did "good" in a tournament with the Pup.

Previously, I worried that they followed the meta but had no idea what that meant in terms of actual ships and play.
As I said before, I'm a lot less salty about the devs. . .except for that C-ROC blue line fiasco.

Nice info as usual, and a funny ending as long as you're doing OK there @Stoneface ; we all wish you the best!

So there is evidence Davy played in January 2015; guess that's something to point to as knowing their game, kinda, at one point.

Usually salty and pointed, but this is well played and hilarious!
Yeah they play quite a bit I imagine. They commentate on the live streamed games at worlds or large FFG events. Also the interviews with team covinate are good examples of there examples.

Had an abdominal aortic aneurysm repaired Monday morning and they kicked me out Tuesday morning! Unfrigging believable! The sticks from the IVs hurt worse than the procedure. Of course I was in LaLa land for the main event. No post-op pain except for a sore throat from intubation.
It truly is amazing what modern medicine can do.

Wow, we are so far away from those pre medieval times! Many crazy sounding procedures like that seems these days just easy stuff, go home next day stuff..
Can't remember well but I do remember them saying that they played a lot. Some interviews always reveal some small details of their more personal X-Wing experiences.
If you listen to the commentary at Worlds and other major events it's pretty obvious the developers that are commentating do play. I was actually quite impressed listening to Alex Davy. He obviously knows the game mechanics extremely well but he also seems to have a pretty good grasp of tactics, manoeuvring and decision making.

From what I think they said, the procedure is only 4-5 years old. Before that it was open you up, cut out the aneurysm, sew in a patch and spend a week in the hospital. Slow recovery, bigger chance of post-op complications, etc., etc., etc..

I would have cited this as evidence to the contrary.
I've heard their commentary and they make errors on some of the most basic stuff all the time. It's about on par with the preview articles.

Whilst this is true, Alex has often said that he also finds it difficult to NOT mention something that he has been playing/using which isn't released yet and often "over thinks" what he is saying, which leads him to miss speak and get pilot abilities and some game interactions incorrect.
Remember, they are two, maybe three waves and a FAQ ahead of the rest of us. If they do play often, which I believe they do, they will be in a different mindset to us.
Additionally, the devs, just like every local gaming community, have their own meta. I seriously doubt they have a dedicated Swarm player, a die hard trilogy player, a bomber, a janker, a WAAC and meta bunny all within their own team. Likely, they have a fly casual atmosphere with the occasional competitive streak.
What I am trying to say is, i'm sure that when they play at lunch, the don't both pull out Dengar + Nym v Low/Biggs/Rex/Jess day in, day out. Most likely they use Leia in a Naboo Starfighter, paired with Rey in the Falcon with K2SO and Obi-wan crew versus two Imperial Gunboats and Kylo in the TIE/Silencer.

That's not been my experience at all. They aren't infallible but Alex Davy in particular is usually pretty quick and correct when asked about a rule for a specific pilot or upgrade. I'd put the level of knowledge above a casual tournament attendee for sure.
