Not feeling the game anymore.

Auturi is awesome and highly recommended. We have had a tournament almost every weekend lately at the various LGS's so a few of us have decided to run the campaign as a way to have some fun outside of the standard game format. It has been a blast! It's incredibly fun discussing tactics as a group and spending 30+ minutes on deciding ONE TURN then watching how it plays out. I know it sounds "wtf... half an hour for one turn?!" but seriously, it was fun and interesting.

As mentioned by others: play more casual or non-100/6, read less how people are hating on the game.

Fly a ship that you like and build around that. For me it's usually at least one of Jake/Snap/Awings or Soontir/Vader/Strikers. I know it's often not top notch, but that only matters if you play against better players using better lists. And even then the better player might try a less efficient approach. The goal does not have to be to win, it could also be to win with a certain approach.

To make an analogy with tabletennis: yes I can score by driving my opponent from one corner to the other, throwing in stop balls and smashes, using every trick up my sleeve. Or I can try to score by slowly increasing the speed and intensity.

To make an analogy from Starcraft: I can do the same cheese rush over and over again. Or I can decide to play the long macro game.

Point is: my approach can vary even if the list and my skill remain the same. And a less optimal approach can be more fun for both.

As side note, personally I love spending time on the game besides playing it. It finally gave me a good fun project to learn how to code better. I like the analysis of large data sets. (And I have more lists ready than I can play!) But I also think that a player of my skills (i.e. low) can fly almost anything, and I can improve many, many skills before the list is the actual problem. Again Starcraft analogy: The problem is not the race if you can't macro...

and now its gone, gone gone

Your not alone, I'm from the days when Falcons and B-Wings were the new hotness, and always embraced every new wave/direction, but whether its normal fatigue or not its losing it appeal. I feel no connection to ships I've never/barely heard of or FA ships that are based on the old conceptional art that are just milked to appeal old & new. I'd be so glad it they just did a few waves of nothing but repaints either singles or aces/vets style, I dont need OT ships to be unstoppable just more appealing and more options/fixes to resurge interest

You are not alone. I dropped in on Hoth Open at the last minute with a newish to me list. Only won one match. But I scored points every round. So it was fun. But now with GenCon in three weeks I am considering if I even want to bring my X-Wing to Indy. There are so many new ships and strategies that I have no idea what they do. It's the curse of a minis game. It's easy to fall behind the new hotness.

Thread needs more song please.

The mission they released with the new ships is pretty entertaining. Missions as a whole are a lot of fun, not least because different stuff is good in each mission so you get to use more of your collection. I would recommend limiting the ships available to the ships that were out when the mission was released though as some of the older missions are broken by newer ships.

Absolutely agree. That's the fun of the Campaign, in many respects.

Run some original Trilogy scenarios. They are a blast. Take some inspiration from the battles from those and the old EU. 100/6 is no fun for casual. Make your own point limits, run what you want, make your own missions. Such a blast.

I can't see doing anything other than this and enjoying the game. I'll never attend a store event, let alone any organized play.

I definitely agree with Phildo: "play more, talk less." (For all you Hamilton fans).

I also want to share an experience I had recently. I was trying to pick a squad for store championships, and it was not fun. I'd get excited, and then I'd start worrying and fretting about match ups. I eventually picked a squad that I felt comfortable with, regardless of the matchup. It was one of my best tournament days ever! It was so liberating to just fly what was fun (and somewhat competitive). If you are tired of the meta, and the struggles to win tournaments, it may just be that you haven't found the right squad yet.

If that doesn't work, find a local friend who has a copy of Runewars. It has a lot in common with X-wing, but it's just starting out, so there's no established meta. And Runewars players are always looking for new people to play with, so you'd be doing him a favor, even if you never buy in. At the very least, it gives you a good break, and then you can dive back into X-wing. Two months ago, I was right where you are, but now I can't get enough TIE STRIKER - I mean X-wing (whoo, forgot the name of this game for a second there).

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Play some crazy crap that sounds exciting. Do that 4 Tie Punisher mission. Play HotAC. Do Mario Kart. Make a list with as many bombs as you can fit in. Just get stupid and fun with it.

Play casually - try playing OT ships only, try mission play, try group/team play. Try random squads...

The easiest way for me to get the wave 1-3 feeling back, is to limit upgrades to about 12 points in the whole list (not counting negative points or punishing 1 title) It really minimizes many crazy combos.

Fly those interceptors, fly scum boba - ignore the meta, find the loving feeling.

Yes @Fuzzywookie, get up with your pals, grab a pint, make your own rules and have great fun with actual Star Wars ships; get away from the stupid new Space Pirates game for a while. Missions and Epic are great!

I mean, if the game continues where Vader, Luke or Han aren't easy ships to throw in a list and it be a A+ squad, then it simply isn't a Star Wars game anymore.

Most feel your frustration...

*sigh*..... such a youngling:

@Parakitor

Even after only 30 games i started getting kinda burnt out on just losing all the time to turrets. The one time I lost to 2 tie interceptors i sorta celebrated. But then i beat RAC Kylo once, and Rey/Finn once, and Dash/Norra once.

Then I discovered Countdown and the Tie Striker...

Then i started flying Whisper, Quickdraw, Countdown....and kept flying imperial boba fett :)

And now i dont care if im still losing 95% of the time.

Winning maybe 5% of the time.

Having genuine fun match ups maybe 30% of the time.

On average that math checks out against other potential hobbies.

I second this. If you like your ships then you'll have more fun independent of a win/loss, at least I do. For me that's A-Wings and X-Wings.

And after a long period of *** lists (best was Poe/Jake/Braylen) I think I finally have one that's fun and kinda good. But what use is the perfect list if I forget to regen, or if I take the wrong action, or if I misjudge a maneuver? These mistakes are much more important than a slightly more or less ideal list.

Last sunday I almost beat the old Paratanni (old Manaroo rules) with Soontir/Quickdraw at 73pts - the remaining points of lone Sabacc instantly evaporated because I misjudged the onebank+3bank, it got me too close to Fenn/Assaj and boom goes the dynamite. But the rest of the game was still interesting, which had me wondering how different it could have turned out with a third ship...

You know I don't, either, because literaly everyone around here went to 40k 8th...I need to introduce some new players, but right now I don't even have time -.- I miss the game.

We have a tournament this coming weekend in WPB, FL that has quasi-random squads, 8 generated for each faction. You may only play the ships, pilots and upgrades from those expansion packs. No META.

Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga
Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga
Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga
Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga
Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga

I can't stop this feeling
Deep inside of me
FFG, you just don't realize
What you do to me

When I hold the latest wave
In my arms so tight
I need to be so brave
cause the game's going to shite

I'm hooked on a feeling
I'm high on believing
That you love to **** with me...

You can help us trouble shoot missions for our GenCon event!

HOTAC changed my life.

Also sometimes taking a brake and flying stupid lists and not caring about winning can be fun.

I got it, try this next game on the openning take one of your ships and just place it in your opponents set up, look them in the eye and Say THIS IS Sparta then kick the table over.

I felt this way too about a year ago.

Ships were not ships anymore, just stats and a dial. It didn't feel like Star Wars anymore. So it didn't take long that I got bored of the game.

So I went back to the source. Why did I start playing in the first place? Because it's Star Wars. I play this game to immerse myself in the Star Wars universe.

So now, I only build thematic list. I specialise in the First Order and Resistance. Bought only the Upsilon from wave X, and still no ship from wave XI, nor the C-Roc. I can't wait to see what ships we'll get once Episode 8 is out.

And I have fun playing again.

I know that a lot of people think that Gameplay >>>>> Fluff. But for me it's the opposite: Fluff >>>>>>> Gameplay.

It's a Star Wars game before anything else and that's why I keep playing.
