According to FFG tournament regulations, bomb tokens are considered "essential" tokens. I've considered buying some acrylic bomb tokens, but won't if there's any chance a TO would put the whammy on using them. Should I just wave off?
Acrylic bomb tokens in tournament play
Technically, it's not legal to use them, so if that concerns you, I wouldn't bother.
That's what I figured. It makes sense, bombs placed under ships would have different dimensions and could tweak how those ships "lean" when on a side and whatnot.
It doesn't, really. They're going to have exactly the same dimensions as the real ones. It's entirely arbitrary, but it's the rules.

I'd guess the "height" of the acrylic would be a little different, but you're probably right. /shrug
I think the main difference is things like focus, evade, stress, and other memory tokens... don't have an actual in game impact. They're just there to remind you what of what you have.
Rules and templates can be shared so if you think someone's templates aren't exactly the correct size you can ask that both players use the same set so it's fair.
Mines on the other hand do have a direct in game impact, but can't really be shared. So FFG IMO anyway has erred on the size of caution. Since they can't guarantee they're the correct size and they can't level the playing field by having them shared, they don't allow them.

The height of them doesn't make a difference - from a rules perspective, they're 2 dimensional.
And FFG have issued their own plastic versions as prizes at times.
I'd take a guess that the majority of the third party laser cut ones will display closer tolerances than the FFG die cut ones. And none of the third party ones will make the mistake FFG did when they issued a completely cocked up set of official prizes which had been cut completely wrongly...

If I were a TO and someone was using them, provided the matched up with the cardboard ones I'd let them use them. But I get why FFG wants to avoid the problem with them.
