Rey & Poe & R2D2 & BB8

By LUKEOUT, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm having a tough time deciding what list I'd like to fly for a SC coming up.

Either:

Poe Dameron (PS9) (33)
Push the Limit (3)
R2-D2 (4)
Primed Thrusters (1)
Autothrusters (2)
Black One (1)

Rey (45)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Chewbacca (4)
Finn (5)
Millennium Falcon (TFA) (1)

Total: 100

Or:

Rey (45)
Determination (1)
Cluster Missiles (4)
Finn (5)
Chewbacca (4)
Guidance Chips (0)
Millennium Falcon (TFA) (1)

Poe Dameron (31)
Push the Limit (3)
BB-8 (2)
Primed Thrusters (1)
Autothrusters (2)
Black One (1)

Total: 100

I've flown the 2nd list before and am about 50% W/L with it. I like being able to barrel roll all the time with Poe and do arc dodging. However, I do see the value in late game regen Poe.

I don't have the Kanan or Intensity cards, so these are about as close as I can get to the standard Rey/Poe. Mostly looking for opinions on which Poe would be preferred. Any tips on how to fly these lists are welcome as well!

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure Cluster Missiles are awful on Rey. You don't benefit from the extra Finn dice, and even though you've got rerolls you're not focused.

Actually, I just ran the maths. At range 2 you get 0.2 extra damage against a 2 agility target with Focus (at range 1 Clusters are worse than primary)... doesn't remotely seem worth spending 4 points on!

I had a feeling that they weren't very good, they certainly didn't do very much for me. I'll have to think of something else for those points. Maybe pushing Poe to PS9 and a Burnout Slam... Thanks for the feedback!

I like the direction you're going. You definitely want to pull off those missiles. I love flying BB-8 Poe as opposed to any form of Regen Poe, he's just so squirrely, so I'd say stick with that. I also love Determination on Rey, it's great against Kylo and will trigger on its own quite a bit!

My biggest recommendation is if you're going to have Poe at PS9, try to have at least a 3-point initiative bid to help win initiative against other PS9 ships and have Poe move after them.

Determination was a happy little accident. I wasn't sure what EPT to give Rey and I just chose that one. It definitely came in handy many times vs Kylo and crits.

I agree that having Poe move last is pretty important with all his repositioning he can do. Thanks for the feedback!

If you have a copy of Intensity and Comm relay, this Poe build is my new favorite:

Poe Dameron (PS9) (33)
Intensity (2)
BB8 (3)
Comm Relay(3)
Autothrusters (2)
Black One (1)

You barrel roll with BB8 the first turn them take an evade from intensity, then focus to be able to flip intensity back over. Then as long as you don't have to spend your focus each turn, you can just double barrel roll or barrel roll/boost each turn. So much fun to use, because you can really put Poe wherever.

" you can just double barrel roll "

I'm not sure I'm following what you're saying here, nothing allows 2 barrel rolls in the same turn from the same ship and Poe doesn't have Barrel Roll action.

Anyway, that poe build is somewhat fragile and not as maneuvrable as other builds with Primed Thrusters, Vectored Thrusters & R2D2

Intensity Poe is amazing! Yes, he can't regenerate. But he knocks off TL's, carries an evade wherever he goes, he still has his ability, which you be contently getting focus tokens, and between 2 dice and autothrusters, you're fairly evasive.

So many ways to build a good Poe!

Yeah, but don't worry about Intensity if you don't already have it. Poe can do good work with what you have.

After some thinking and taking in all the advice, I think I'm going to try something like this:

Rey (45)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Finn (5)
Chewbacca (4)
Millennium Falcon (TFA) (1)

Poe Dameron (PS9) (33)
Push the Limit (3)
BB-8 (2)
Primed Thrusters (1)
Autothrusters (2)
Black One (1)

That'll be a ton of fun! As a regular Rey/Poe flier, I'll offer this advice:

  • Try to set up Poe for BB-8 barrel rolls on as many moves as possible. This will ensure you can PtL after the BB-8 barrel roll, then clear the stress you gain from PtL, do your maneuver then get your regular action! I've also found planning for the barrel roll is great for helping Poe dodge arcs and keep his own arc on the target.
  • Don't forget to pull off target locks when you BB-8 barrel roll!
  • Do get married to doing the sloop with Rey. It's easy to get used to it and easy to become predictable.
