Leia fleet for tournament - feedback appreciated!

By ceejlekabeejle, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Never done this before, but thought I'd consult the hive mind!

Got a tournament coming up, and am pretty keen to use the new ships and upgrades, but am reasonably confident that half the room will be using Sloane (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). So instead, I'd like to go Rebel, using Leia and the Hammerheads.

The logic is to take advantage of Leia in a fleet that is speedy, manoeuvrable, flexible and that should outnumber a lot of the lists I'll likely come up against, barring other MSUs. I've got a relatively low bid (and can go lower), so that I'm gunning for first player. The Liberty is obviously the lynchpin of the fleet, and has Nav teams to get some tight turns, even at speed three. The Cr90 and two hammerheads are intended to work as flankers, and can use terrain to their advantage. Each Hammerhead has a slightly different role, but benefits from Taskforce Organa at different moments in the battle; the Scout is aiming to use its re-rolls with its gunnery team, long-range shots, whilst the Torpedo frigate can use them once it's in at close range. I've had reasonable success with this combo in a previous game, and used the boarding engineers to similarly potent effect; the aim is to last-first and run away laughing or screaming. Jaina's Light is Jaina's light - always fabulous. And the Flotilla is there largely to support the fighters - the fighters themselves are primarily intended to hold up squads around my shops, the VCX giving me a bit of additional flexibility on range and objective token based games.

Leia is just intended to boost the various facets of the fleet: making speed jumps from 1-3 or 2-4 possible, and tightening turns; concentrating fire and giving re-rolls, so that I have some reliable firepower at my disposal; allowing the flotilla to comfortably push the three squads; and giving the Liberty decent engineering value in a pinch. As I say, my hope is to make the most of my manoeuvrability to get onto flanks, deal damage at distance, and then close rapidly or scream past. When it comes to Sloane fleets, my plan is simply to hit the carrier(s) fast, hard and with everything I've got.

I'd appreciate any feedback! It mainly looks like a fun fleet to play, and I know I play better when I like the list I'm using.

Be careful with Task Force Organa. You might find that other lists can take advantage of you spread out. Chart officers are a nice touch. Careful with trying to be super creative maneuvering the Hammerheads though, they do not turn well at the speeds you'll need to be effectively flanking. Skilled First Officer will be handy for the versatility you will need.

I am building something a bit similar, but I threw on engine techs to swing the front arc around a little more and went with the other Liberty-class.

Good luck with it!

Anyway of getting a fourth squad for deploy? Even a z95 would be worth it.

Yeah, a few "war exercises" (read trying it out on my desk...) showed that Hammerheads aren't particularly manoeuvrable at speed 3, even with Leia shenanigans. You can't radically reposition in the way that a Corvette, or even Liberty with Nav teams, can. So I'd probably aim to position the other ships first, and then the Hammerheads once I had a better idea of their order of battle.

I went for Nav Teams because it's more the extra yaw I want on the Liberty - with a click from the nav order and then one from the Nav Teams, I really can pull tight turns. It's swings and roundabouts, as engine techs can allow you to go speed 4, but I think Nav Teams will be more useful with what I want to do.

I have wondered this, even switching out the VCX (which I won't really be aiming to use for relay) for two Z-95s, just as some additional squadron fodder. Worth thinking about.
