A few questions from a newcomer to L5R

By The Spider, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

Hello, Everyone. I am new to the forum and LCG, I recently started looking to get into LCG and came across L5R.
I really like the art, game mechanics, and all the fictional writing that gives the world depth.
Now for a couple of questions if I may :)
1. Can anyone point me to a link that shows all the current cards revealed, please?
2. Are there more cards to come per faction or are the factions revealed so far complete?
3. Are the Spider Clan scheduled for release?
4. Could you recommend a YouTuber that is noob friendly and goes through the rules and cards?

Many thanks all
Looking forward to my new L5R adventures :)

There is no confirmation for the Spider or any faction beyond the 7 in the core set.

This thread has the spoiler list.

https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/247652-spoiled-cards-list/

There are still some gaps in the already spoiled factions and we don't know all the neutrals.

1.) I recommend these threads, They are the full spoiler list, and images currently available. Spoiled Cards List also has what cards from which clans we have and haven't seen yet.

3.) Spider Clan, as of right now, is not on the schedule for being released.

4.) Don't have any youtubers, sorry. All I have are podcasts.

Welcome! I would also suggest checking out https://fiveringsdb.com/ While I can't confirm they have every spoiler right this second they do all seem to end up there eventually and they are searchable so that's a huge plus.

1. I don't know who's maintaining this list, unfortunately, but my go to list has been this one:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vUzqEqnHtFnl24SKACZTqyiHhrOW9HQzTBjYAbAuaKU/edit#gid=1083018885

It has all the cards that have been previewed (and is updated nearly in real time) and also has an attachment of the image of each card. It shows the cards in the order that they are numbered by FFG, which appears to start with price (0 cost characters are before 1 cost characters) and then alphabetically within that cost slot. This isn't exact, because there are exceptions (Hida Tomonatsu is after Vengeful Berserker), but that is because Tomonatsu is unique, so that's probably how they're organized.

The document is extremely useful both for making Proxies and for just checking the exact text of the revealed text (there are also some cards where the text is estimated).

2. There are going to be Dynasty packs released every month following the official release of the game (this is the intended timeline, sometimes they're late in releasing them if the demand is too high). These will likely contain 2 new cards for each clan and a hand full of neutrals (likely 6, to make a pack of 20 new cards). They'll come out with 3 copies of each card for a full play set, likely at the price of ~14.95 USD per pack. Other than that, there are a few cards that have not yet been revealed for the clans that have been previewed. As you can see on the google doc I linked, card number 30 is a 2 or 3 cost character for the Crab clan that has not been revealed.

3. There has been no confirmation as to whether they will be incorporated into the game at some point in the future. Speaking from experience as an old L5R player, a LOT of things would have to go just right in order for them to form the way they were in the CCG. An alternate iteration of them may be possible but we don't know yet.

4. As far as Youtubers go,Winter Court is a podcast that goes over the cards in detail and discuss combos, synergies etc. They also do live videos of games:

Imperial Advisor is the only other one I'm aware of:

I also would not get your hopes up for a Spider clan. It is the result of a somewhat organic evolution to a poorly executed idea in old L5R. There have been no announcements of any additional factions (Though there has been nothing saying it won't happen either).

As for a "Learn to Play" as the game isn't officially out yet (including the rules), all you (and we) are the articles on the Product Page.

Many thanks :)

Thank you, everyone, for furnishing me with all this knowledge :)
Not knowing much about the long history of L5R I did not realize the Spider Clan were not really a thing.
Is this because they were a late addition to the game world and time period?
Is there any chance they may be resurrected by FFG do you think?
I recently read http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1237930.The_Scorpion
I really enjoyed the story and the feel of the Scorpions. Maybe these would be a good fit.
Though I love Mantis (I used to keep them) and the Nautical pirate vibe is very cool )
Decisions, decisions lol

FFG has re-set the setting to shortly before the beginning of the game under the old owners (AEG).
The Spider Clan didn't come about until several generations after this point in the story. They may reappear later, or they may not. Time will tell.

After watching

It seems the game has changed quite a lot from the videos I have been watching

Do holdings now produce fate instead per round?

The CCG under AEG and the LCG under FFG are entirely different games. They hit a few of the same notes, but that's about it.

Thank you, I did not realize the change was so dramatic.

It is a complete overhaul of the system. They picked what they thought were the defining aspects of the game they wanted to preserve but much of the underlying mechanics were reworked from the ground up. While change always ruffles feathers L5R definitely felt like an old 90's card game complete with snowballing, resource ramp up, wonky economics etc. They mentioned early on that their mission was to take the moments they felt were the strong, exciting parts of the old system and stretch that out to the entire experience. It's too early to say they were successful, but so far I think they've done a good job of making every conflict feel important.

Will card packs and expansions follow a story line and will players have an influence in some way how the story unfolds?

They have said that players will have an effect on the storyline though we don't know the details. I think it's safe to say story prizes will be back, but we don't know what form they will take. I think most people are receptive to a more restricted format for story prizes because of one the criticisms with the legacy was the story got muddle easily partly because of the format of the story prizes. A popular opinion is the first story prize will be we'll get to pick which faction will win the Emerald Championship.

They've said the game will be a sandbox instead of directly being an analogue for the current ongoing story. For example dead characters will appear and if fact already have already appeared in the card pool. Therefore you'll be able to play out any scenario you want with the cards. That said we'll probably see characters introduced in the packs if they appear in the fiction and in other LCGs fiction is included inside the packs in the form of a folded 2 to 4 page insert so that's not unheard of in past LCGs. Though these details haven't been revealed yet.

Having never been into the CCG or LCG scene I know very little about how new card packs and expansions are decided so this info is very useful thank you :)

I did recently start playing a few CCG games on steam and that led me into wanting to get my hands on the physical cards etc. It's probably very good timing as I can now be in at the start of the new L5R story and not have to buy a ton of expansions to catch up :)
