TC Heart of the Empire Preview

By Animewarsdude, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Yay, information!

Now we know power tokens have 2 limits:

1. Only 1 power token per figure attack.

2. Only 2 total power tokens, of any kind, held per figure.

Awesome. :)

I'm happy to know more details about those power tokens.

Also, specifically spend up to one when declaring an attack, just like the article already strongly suggested.

Yeah that makes it a bit more of a gamble.

Can't just drop one like Positioning Advantage when you come up one short.

I'm pretty sure this was filmed in May while TC was in Roseville for Worlds. that's my guess.

And there will be a new type of terrain ... whatsoever.

Is there any more Information?

I think the power token clarification was literally the only news we couldn't glean from previous articles/announcements. Unless I missed some hidden nugget.

Todd did recommend pairing Palpatine with an AT-ST which makes me like 1% more confident in my prediction that we'll be seeing some vehicle love this wave that might help out the AT-ST and the Tank.

About the terrain? Didn't Todd allude that the new tiles are specifically Coruscant tiles? Not forest, desert, snow, interior, but Coruscant (whatever they are really called).

I interpreted what he said as talking about the art style of the tiles, with no impact on gameplay. When Zach reacted to his statement that there were new tiles, he seemed to clarify that they were just different in appearance.

My guess is the new tiles represent elevated settings - roof tops, possibly gantries - and potentially there's squares that represent the ground far below, with the artwork done in a way to show th depth. Not sure how that would work in gameplay, particularly when someone gets pushed off...

Could it be referring to this quote from the HotE announcement? Been wondering how that was going to manifest itself.

Quote

New energy shield and rubble tokens will throw a wrench in your opponent’s plans by modifying the battlefield...

City exterior tiles, otherwise the walker wouldn't be allowed anywhere, at least not without disclaimers. So the exterior tiles will be forest, desert, snow, city. We might even find a habitat linked to it, for example those droids might be habitat city.

I hope not. Except in cases where it makes sense (Wampa, mainly) I think habitats are really limiting.

Great news considering that it is still marked as at the printer. Where is it....???

Really like the sound of the player driven progression, too (though we did get some of that in JR, I'm hoping it's a little more built into the missions, like that one "moment", rather than simply just having players choose between two missions).

In JR you could choose missions, but those never felt that different (just one job or another). In this one, it sounds like you might be able to actually try different things that might have larger effects? Like, "Do you want to follow this lead from a captured Imperial spy to an 'abandoned' Imperial training site? Or do you want to help a local crime boss win a turf war so he'll give you the information you need?" I'd be happy with choices like that even if we don't get in-mission choices.

Right, that's what I'm hoping. Or even in-game mission effects-

For instance, in objective description-

"If the Rebels choose to destroy the terminal, they will later have to track down and interrogate a Clawdite informant. If the Rebels decide to try and download the data and protect the terminal for 2 rounds, they will put that data to use and attack the factory in the next mission"

On another note- kinda weird how late this was published.

They put out a video for the Wave 9 stuff (and JR) just a few weeks after it was announced. This is almost 3 months after the announcement.

This was filmed in late April. I find it strange that it just got released now.

I guess I would too, but stuff seeming like it takes forever to come out seems to be a theme lately :P

I was thinking it was put out just now bc they knew that HotE was releasing soon. Looks like that was possibly right :-). Can't wait!

This is also how I understood it.

good interview, exctites about getting to play it, Palpatine feels a little underwhelming, but I get what they are going for, and they did a good job to make him they wanted to make out of him.

Kinda funny how in uncomfortable Christiano Ronaldo seemed under the whole interview.

I'm guessing that team covenant is just working through its log of video it took at worlds and just now getting to this because the time sensitivity was no big deal. Or there was some kind of time stamp they couldn't release before but I'm doubting it with the content they actually talked about.
