Clan Music

By Fumo, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

As I sat meditating on the future of a L5R without a playable Mantis Clan and searching for guidance on which Clan I should hitch my wagon to, I saw the flavour text on this:

And immediately remembered this:

and knew that my home was with Shinjo for the foreseeable future, and that Mindhorn would be my new anthem.

Got me wondering though, does anyone have any music they associate with their favourite Clan (Besides other Mantis players and the inevitable AC/DC)?

I. Absolutely. Love this video.

For those of us less familiar with their work, could you elaborate what song you find particularly Mantis-y?

But songs to go with clans, eh? Let's take a stab at that...

Crab: Another Brick in the Wall

Crane: You're so Vain

Dragon: Theme from the Olympics

Lion: Eye of the Tiger

Mantis: The Irish Rover

Phoenix: Ring of Fire

Scorpion: Every Breath You Take

Spider: The Itsy-Bitsy Spider

Unicorn: Break My Stride

I associate America's "The Last Unicorn" with the Unicorn.

I offer this to the Dragon.

I will not be abandon the Mantis/MCA. Especially in our hour of need.

Every victory will be for the Forest and the Sea. Every game played using a different Clan will be training in how to defeat them when we finally have cards.

For the Mantis, This Will Be the Day (feat. Casey Lee Williams).

I'm assuming Lion gets Hamster Dance.

The first thing that popped in my mind for Crab was Bad Boys for some reason, which then spiraled into a L5R Cops parody in my mind.

Badger Clan of course gets: https://www.badgerbadgerbadger.com/

Thunderstruck. Those Moshi love a bit of AC/DC.

The fact with only like 2 or three changes, you can make that first part easily about the other clans.

Unicorn:

Ride like the Wind or Born to Be Wild

Mantis:

Smuggler's Blues

As a Dragon Clan initiate, I accept this wonderful song. ?

Kevin Gates' 2 Phones is the iconic Spider Clan song, in my opinion.

I can distinctly remember making "There goes my Hiro" Foo Fighters references in the Mantis days of Ambush / Overwhelmed.

If we are talking Crab and we want to set the scene where a few brave defenders are fighting off hordes of goblins, ogres, oni, lost etc then I think you need something Heavy and Metal like Slayer's Raining Blood. Maybe even something more Power Metal like Dragonforce's Fury Of The Storm or Through The Fire And Flames.

Really? I was thinking more Queen's "Hammer to Fall".

I love that song. I'll take it. The lyrics work well for the Crab's theme.

Tattoos, dragons, and a crazy temple in the sky. Sounds about right!

I <3 Wagakki Band.

On dodgy internet, so links later... but for my three favorite Great Clans:

Phoenix:

"A Dazzling End" off of some Doctor Who soundtrack.

Stravinski's Firebird suite.

"Why Does This Always Happen To Me?" by Weird Al.

"Master of Light," by Monster Magnet

"X-Ray Visions," by Clutch

Scorpion:

"I Can't Decide," by Scissor Sisters

Pretty much any time Scarpia sings in Tosca. Sample.

"You Know My Name," by Chris Cornell

"Cypress Grove," by Clutch

Dragon:

"Up On The Roof," by the Drifters

"The Man on the Silver Mountain," by Rainbow

"Landslide," by Fleetwood Mac (Also works for the Spider, the Mantis, and anyone else whose faction identity was helplessly shackled to a single character in AEG's narrative)

"Daring General," which I first heard on the King Fu Hustle soundtrack.

EDIT: Linkified

I'd suggest this entire film for the Crane, but this is the standout song from it:

Traditional instruments, great vocals, AND it's a George Harrison tune. Can it possibly BE any cooler?

oh and the movie is cool too ?

Of course, Brotherhood is "Everybody was Kung-Fu fighting!"

Crane deserve nothing that good (and Kubo's themes always struck me as more Phoenix/Unicorn anyway... mysticism, forgiveness, the value of family...)!

Kyuden Doji Delenda Est.

Purge the Crane with fire.

With the haterade poured and ready to go, I always had the Crane pegged as Yo Yo Ma's stuff in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, or maybe (speaking of things far cooler than they deserve) the theme from Seven Samurai.

You could pretty much throw a dart at a wall of Manowar and Sabaton songs and hit something appropriate for Crab.

More specifically,

Manowar - 'Brothers of Metal Pt. 1', 'Courage', 'King of Kings', 'Sleipnir', 'Blood Brothers', 'The Sons of Odin', and 'Gods of War'

Sabaton - 'Angels Calling', 'A Light in the Black', '40:1', 'Cliffs of Gallipoli', 'Union (Slopes of St. Benedict), and 'The Price Of A Mile'
