If you could apply Boba Fett (crew) to your opponent's Dengar - which upgrade card would you have him remove? Let's say Dengar would be kitted out like this:

Total: 53

The title. Reducing his firepower has gotta be good. K4 would be a close 2nd though.

Yeah, I thought so too but I was wondering about the math behind it. Probably someone not useless with numbers like me can figure out if modified 2-die shots net more hits than unmodified 3-die shots.

He'd still be able to get modified 3 dice shots though. Remove K4 and he takes Target Lock as his action. Remove Expertise and he takes Focus. You'd need to remove them both to have any consistent effect.

He can't do anything about the lost dice from removing Punishing One, though.

The one that costs 12 points seems like a good bet.

1-Punishing One (12)
2-Expertise (4)
3-K4-Security Droid (3)
4-Unhinged Astromech (1)

Reduce its firepower to 2 makes the rest of the upgrades worst. Talking in terms of odds and probability, the chance of getting 2 impacts with 3 dices, with target-lock is almost the same as with 2 dices, concentrated and target-lock. But you are removing the possibility of making 3 impacts

Expertise is a better target than K4 because Expertise trigger in both attacks from Dengar, but not the free target lock from K4. Expertise triggers always, except from Red maneuvers, K4 triggers always except from White and Red maneuvers (there is Little difference here, but hey, is a thing to have in account).

What if it's a Torpedo Dengar? If you get a chance to Boba it before it has fired the ordnance, do you still go for the title?

If you're flying against someone who has loaded that many points onto Dengar and you manage to slip a crit through on Dengar before he has fired any of his ordnance... then you're doing just fine. I don't think you're going to have any problem finishing Dengar off even if you don't use Boba.

That being said, I'd still go for the title for all the same reasons above. If you strip the K4 or Expertise then he can just take a TL/focus (respectfully) as his action. Stripping the ordnance is basically useless because with Extra Munitions you would only be removing the EM token, not the ordnance itself. And if you're critting Dengar before he fires ordnance that means that you're arc-dodging him something fierce- and the turret can fire out of arc but the torpedo can't.

The expected hits with 3 dice with focus or TL is 2.25, while it is only 1.88 with 2 dice with focus and TL.
