Meh. I think that that's more the stereotype than the truth. Most pirates seem to have been privateers or similar - government-sponsored robbers or ordinary ship crew robbers. I don't think they were nearly as 'uncivilized' as Pirates of the Caribbean and other movies make them out to be.
More like a regular ship crew who decide to board other ships, ya know?

So the item I lost is indeed that bullet-proof vest, also described to me in the original PM as a personal shield, which I guessed is the same one Toad had. Since people started looking at the items: I believe the scanner is a one-shot faction reveal and the E-web is some sort of night kill
Also, piracy is not all bad, back in the day I was a good one, and now I'm helping you guys hunt down threats to town.
And that's the second game I play in a row that people have no read on me, I'm guessing I'm a naturally hard to read person
