I've been playing around with some ideas for custom-making a ship and have decided on the Baudo-class star yacht, the ship made famous by Booster Terrick's Pulsar Skate. And I'll be doing the sexy, curvy one, not the dorky-looking one that looks like a Lambda shuttle chassis sans strapped onto a high school skater punk's homemade skate park from the comics.
Anyhow, looking to create a dial and stat line for this ship, I've done a bit of research to prepare, so here's what I know about the ship past the model itself.
- While I'd like it to be a Rebel Ship, it's pretty evident that Booster Terrick is only loosely associated with the New Republic, so it might be more suited to Scum? I'll likely be running it as a Rebel in casual settings anyway, so it matters little.
- It's faster than a standard YT-1300, the Baudo clocking in 400 kmph faster in atmosphere. I think this should mean it either has a 5 forward or a native Boost action and no 1 straight.
- I think it should have the Focus and Target lock action native. I don't really want to add a Barrel Roll natively
- It's not supposed to be very heavily armed at all. Wookiepedia says it sports a laser cannon turret, but it would have to be underslung if it does, because I can't see it in the first picture on Wookiepedia. Due to the general disdain I have for PWT ships, I'd rather it have a natural 2 die attack, I think, to properly represent the light armament of it.
- This ship is supposed to be highly customized for the buyer when purchased, so even a civilian pilot probably has fun bells and whistles on this rascal. I think, given the time frame it was written for, I'd feel very comfortable calling for EPT on the higher level pilots (Probably Mirax Terrick, Booster Terrick, maybe a mid-level Corran Horn since he's not a freighter pilot predominantly?), Cannon OR Turret weapon, Tech, Crew, maybe a second crew or a System? I do want it relatively balanced.
- The Pulsar Skate should give an Illicit slot and a SLAM action? This is like a Lamborghini of light space freighters, and with it it'd be terrifying. It'd be somewhere in the 3-6 point title, I think. It does beg the question, "why I would need Boost?" Maybe it goes away. Maybe not. I like Boost on this ship. It feels right. But Adv Slam with a native boost seems a bit crazy.
So, light of these things, this how I think the base pilot card looks: 2 Atk (standard firing arc), 2 evade, 6 hull, 4 shields. Not as hefty as a YT or VCX, but well put together for hull. It's a freighter, not an Imperial shuttle, so less shielding. 2 evade for the Lambo of space freighters. Focus, Boost, Target Lock. System, Tech, Crew, and Turret or Cannon. A faster set of dials than a YT-1300, which is attached.
Please, review.
