Junkyard Wreckers

By BlodVargarna, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I think this list would take the Rebel 3-4 ship Biggs/Lowric build to pieces, and fast.

Systems officer gives Glaive a TL, Glaive's TL gives Vessery a TL, Fleet Officer gives out focus tokens to both defenders. Each D takes a focus or Barrel roll depending on situation.

Vessery shoots first, Tractor beams Biggs, reducing his agility and maybe parking him on a rock. Ruthlessness triggers, you give a damage to Lowric. Immediately shoot again, You have a TL from Glaive and possibly another focus put some damage on Biggs, put another damage on Lowric.

Glaive shoots, puts an Ion on Biggs for a damage (using TL/ focus as needed) Ruthlessness triggers, put another damage on Lowric, shoot again, put more damage (by now probably killing) Biggs and another damage on Lowric. Repeat this until they break formation (easy with tractors and ion) then rip apart the list "ship to ship."

Junkyard Wreckers (100)

Colonel Vessery (39) - TIE Defender
Ruthlessness (3), Tractor Beam (1), TIE/D (0)

Glaive Squadron Pilot (40) - TIE Defender
Ruthlessness (3), Ion Cannon (3), TIE/D (0)

Scimitar Squadron Pilot (21) - TIE Bomber
TIE Shuttle (0), Systems Officer (2), Fleet Officer (3)

Wouldn't it be a good idea to try and splat Rex with the Ruthless damage? Two ships in one round would be pretty great!

Even better

More importantly, you can potentially splat him before he gets to use suppressing fire, and whilst Draw Their Fire and Selflessness can draw off the damage, it doesn't actually stop the "hit" from occurring, so getting 3 Ruthlessness hits out of 4 attacks isn't that unlikely.

Killing Biggs is far from garuanteed with the other ship's ability to spread out the damage, but Ion Cannons are actually a very good weapon - because you cancel all [boom] and [kaboom] results, there's nothing for Draw Their Fire and Selflessness to redirect.

For the record, this does require more careful flying on your part vs lists that are not Rebel Junkyard.

I was trying out something in a similar vein (I had Ruthlessness on two Aggressors, as I wanted to try them out, while Vessery was VI and Tractor Beam to help them hit), but was testing it against the list my brother was practicing, which I believe was a 2 to 3 ship scum list.

... The only thing I hit Ruthlessness with was myself.

Admittedly, I've never used the upgrade before, and the flying style is quite different than what I was used to, but it definitely required more layers of thinking than one might expect.

I am also of the opinion that Ruthlessness may be a canard after having done some testing.

I get the theory crafting here but I'm not sure you've actually flown with a Systems Officer. This is not a K4 security droid on a high PS ship like Dengar.

You have it on your lowest PS ship. This ship moves before the entirely of your opponents list, even if you move a green and stay in formation of your Defenders they will not be in range of your opponents list on that first engagement when Systems Officer triggers.

Even on Striden who can extend the range of System's Officer to 3 you are still moving Striden at 4 while the ships you need go hut range are probably all much higher and haven't hit range yet.

Systems Officer is easily one of the hardest Synergy tools to use in the game, and it will very rarely will help you on the opening exchange.

I think you are most likely going to Fleet Officer the focus and then have to Target lock with the Glaive. If you can escape the first engagement without losing a Defender you should be good, but given that you want to use all your mods in offence to push through Ruthlessness I think it's going to be tough.

I've seen variations on two Defenders and a support Bomber do well. Using Maarek and/or Rexler with VI or Adaptability can give you higher PS Defenders for a better matchup against other types of lists.

I played in a Store Championship this weekend. My third game was against a very similar Ruthlessness list... I believe it was Ryad and Vessery w/Ruthlessness and Tie/D (Tractor) and a PS2 Bomber with LRS and a Homing Missile. My fourth game was against Rebel Junkyard (what appears to be the most common version, down to the exact upgrades).

The guy from my third game actually played the guy from my fourth game. Apparently the Ruthlessness list tore the everloving bejeebus out of the Junkyard list. I don't remember the exact MOV result, since it wasn't my game, but it was either 100-0 or pretty close. However, my two-ship list took apart the Ruthlessness list just as easily. Food for thought.

Try it against my Rebel junkyard list. Unless my green dice blank out you ain't touching me with any tractor beams or ions. ?

Selflessnes and Draw their fire both don't prevent getting hit and therefor Ruthlessness and Ion/Tractor both work just fine. The T-Beam with double mods is very likely to hit, unless you roll perfect greens, in which case you didn't use the Evade to save actual damage. After that it isn't too unlikely to hit at least two more attacks.

Unless Biggs can somehow generate 3 evades 2 to 4 times, you're exaggerating.

Junkyard survives by reducing damage, not by blocking hits. You can't reduce the damage from ion cannons or Ruthlessness.

Using the evade against the TBeam to stop it hitting is absolutely the right choice though. You reduce however many points of damage (or stress tokens with R4-D6) that point of agility would have saved, by doing so.

My biggs is rolling 4 green dice minimum with multiple focus. Not impossible bc yea my green dice can be garbage but its a lot harder to hit

Its not Biggs/lowhhrick though. Im still trying to think of a fun combo there. Yea i was exaggeration a bit when i said you aint touching Biggs. Just talking smack lol

This is the list I used against this "Junk Yard" list;

It was very effective; as the TL bypasses Biggs; I was able to mince Rex in first round of shooting. Jonas; Fired and Missed; which gives one of the 3rd Aggressors a focus for evading as I was using 1 per turn to ruin the formation.

The Aggressors (100)

Captain Jonus (31) - TIE Bomber

Wingman (2), TIE Shuttle (0), Lightweight Frame (2), Operations Specialist (3), Systems Officer (2)

Sienar Specialist (23) - TIE Aggressor

Synced Turret (4), Lightweight Frame (2) x 3

I like the list the OP posted; and am gonna shameless rob it to give it a go :P
