Question is in the title, can it work better than elite vader/guard or raider
Can elite kylo/vader (awakenings) work
I think could work, but you'll be limiting yourself to only using Blue cards. The Raider option gives you the ability to add Yellow cards to your deck, as well.
I think that Vader's dice is so good, you're really limiting his damage potential with just one dice. I'm assuming you have the same problem I have - I only pulled one Vader in Awakenings, nobody will trade him, and I don't feel like paying $40 for the second dice, but I still really want to use him.
Non-elite Vader serves a purpose, but it's usually in a mill deck (because of his high health and potential to maybe kill one low-health character). Jabba/Vader and Unkar/Vader are both good mill decks, but both really struggle now that Fast Hands can't go on Vader (his high health makes him a monster with Blackmail+Fast Hands). Most Vader mill decks now take Cargo Hold. In the early game, you move Fast Hands from whichever lardbucket you're using (be it Unkar or Vader) and then in the endgame you use it for dice mitigation (moving an opponent's upgrade causes the associated dice to leave the pool.)
I have 2 vader but seem to find they kill my guard before I can kill 1 of there characters
That tends to be the major shortcoming of Vader/Guard: not enough dice control. Yes, the Guard has a better die, but people usually go with a Tusken Raider for that exact reason: He Doesn't Like You, Electroshock, and even One Quarter Portion can be real lifesavers. Plus some of the Yellow Melee weapons are actually pretty good.

Do people give Vader a flame thrower?!? Sorry, awesome visual...

Yes, played against a Vader with a flame thrower once.
I love straight blue villain decks if for no other reason than the look on your opponents face when you play No Mercy with a full hand of blue cards and resolving a 3 value melee die. ![]()
