Scum Y-Wing + R4 Agromech + Sync Turret + BTL-A4?

By sf1raptor, in X-Wing

Has anyone tried combining the Sync Turret with R4 Agromech and BTL-A4? I thought that it could be a pretty powerful combo, but does anyone have experience with it?

Yes, yes I have.

I'm not experienced with Y-Wings, but these buggers were little buzzsaws. So long as I had a target in arc at range 1-2 it was taking some damage. Y-Wings are tough enough to take a couple of shots too.

I'm not sure how many to use or what to put in a list with them though. I tried Nym, two R4-Syncd thugs and Sunny with the light title(called it Nym-Sync). I won but it was close and against a newer player who made lots of mistakes. I wouldn't be surprised to see a successful list that makes use of them though.

Sounds really good! I'll have to try these out! The only thing I'd be worried about is the lack of power at range 3, but most stuff (like Fenn Rau) wants to be at close range anyway, so this could prove a really nasty combo!

The biggest trouble for me was the Y-Wing's dial and lack of greens after a K-turn. Even a 1 bank being green would make a huge difference since the combo only works if you have a focus. In the first pass they were some dangerous little buggers but when I had to get them turned around it took three turns: 1 for the k-turn, 1 to clear the stress, and 1 to re-engage(my opponent was smart enough to get the target that my Ys had locked away and to the side of them so the green moves wouldn't get me arc; I would expect most people to do the same). That's a lot of turns to be largely out of the fight though. I don't run Y-Wings often, I bet someone who does could get more out of them.

This was noticed as soon as the card was spoiled, and it's probably one of its best uses. They're solid, but their single greatest problem is that they're the same price as a TLT Y-wing, and living in a meta that isn't hugely friendly to their firepower - they really want to shoot at medium to close range at ships with limited defensive tech, because the enemy gets to defend twice.

Get a few more low-agi ships out on the field, however, and there shall be glory. Had they existed during the days of B-wings and Decimators? There would have been ruinous lamentation. :D

One interesting possibility does remain, to mine eyes: They're an excellent TLT Y-wing counter. Same price, and as long as they get the other guy into their sights without taking more than a round or so's unanswered fire, and those 5 modded dice a round will chew them to breakfast.

... Pity it won't work so well on Aggressors.

Cool until after the first opening joust, then the TLT ones have advantage for the rest of the game. All depends on if they get some off the board early.

Depending on the rest of the lists, and the way they're flown, you may have one or more TLTs no longer on the board after the first joust, yes. It's not an auto-win... but flown well it may not be a bad idea.

Really, they want more Y-wing analogues on the board to really take off, and unfortunately the Azituck's Re-enforce... probably doesn't count.

Which is why I'd be looking at a 2-2 split of BTL-A4s and plain TLTs, to have more coverage following the initial joust. And since the BTL-A4s cost 24 points, you have enough room to give the TLT carriers R4 Agromechs, too.

I'm not sure what options scum have for managing stress? pairing with elite ships with Wingman might work.

That feels like throwing bad points at the problem. You probably wouldn't want a ship in the list whose man job was removing stress, even if it's cheap like Kaa'to or Inaldra. A pair of those R4 Synced Ys just need to have some decent support for the other half of the list. Regular TLT or ICT maybe? You have 52 points left to work with so there is probably something that would work.
