Target Characteristic and Parentheses number: Are the numbers added together?

By Emirikol, in WFRP Rules Questions

I think I've been doing it wrong:

STR is added to the number in parentheses to determine potential damage, correct?

TOU is added to the number in parentheses to determine Total Soak, correct?

AGI is ___NOT___ added to the number in parentheses to determine Total Defense correct?

For some reason ToA 46 looks confusing to me. Why would you add for for the first two, but not the total defense? Does dip, duck, dive, dodge have nothing to do with anything? is this only determined by the Action cards dodge, block, parry?

It's also taking me a bit of time to get used to the numbers in parentheses and remember what they mean.

Yes, to Damage I think you do add Strength (for melee attacks) or Agility (for ranged attacks). To Soak you do add Toughness.

Agility is not added to Defence, but the GM can use defensive actions for NPCs when appropriate.

Yes what you say there is right.

I noticed on your player rules guide you were doing it wrong about AGI and Defence. I misunderstood it also at first and that's logical : Defence shouldn't be written in parentheses (is bracket a right word too to say it ?) next to AGI because it's not treated as the other numbers in parentheses.

Other strange thing about that parentheses : damage are next to STR but also are added to AGI for range attacks.

The custom NPCs cards around here have a separate Damage and Defense item next to characteristics, and that's a very good idea.

Thanks for the tips:

2 things FFG needs to do then:

1. CLEAR THIS UP and retool the monster stat blocks (before they go and make a bunch more product)

2. List which monsters have Active Defense Action Card qualifications (probably something I'm going to have to do one of these nights when I'm ignoring my kids and being a bad father..good thing I don't MMO or I'd really be a bad father ;).
