Who do people think will be the first Mantis Clan members to appear in the game? Yoritomo, probably, but then who would be next? Kurei? Hasagawa? Most of the early YA's people weren't Mantis clan, but other minor clans.
The first Mantis Clan personalities!
I think just Yoritomo for now, and give us Ryosei and Tsuruchi as other minor clan personalities. Yoritomo's Alliance was okay, but I didn't like how Fox and Wasp got swallowed to make Mantis a major clan.
I'm looking forward to seeing Yogo Aramasu; or to give him the family name by which most L5R players will soon come to know him, Yogo Aramasu.

I agree if the Mantis shows up it will be Yoritomo, with maybe some unnamed characters.
Story-wise either Yoritomo will either be a ronin pirate looking to pressure the Crane to get them to name Yoritomo and his followers as the Mantis Clan. If the Mantis Clan already exists then Yoritomo is seeking concession of boats and ports from the Crane in return for ridding the Empire of the "pirates". Yoritomo would then most likely demand that all commerce going through those ports be transported by the Mantis.
I bet the first one will be, 'Smelly Mantis Pirate' a generic neutral ?

Since we haven't seen any deviation in the base L5R setting, (yet, hopefully never) I bet the Mantis are still minor clan.

It could go either way, in the Crane fiction Yoritomo was call a pirate with no mention of the Mantis. But from the AEG timeline, as you said, the Mantis exist as a minor clan, possibly with an alliance with the Centipede Clan. The Fox (with Kitsune Gohei as champion) and the Wasp would still be in the Three Man Alliance with the Sparrow Clan.

Considering what the GC tend to think of MC's it's not entirely surprising that Hotaru wouldn't bother to mention Yoritomo's affiliation.
At this point I'm leaning towards only story line references to Yoritomo or other minor clans for the core set. I more inclined believe that we will see one of them (Yoritomo or other important minor clans) to start popping up in the dynasty packs.
Still waiting on the Ogre Bushi and Ninja Spy myself. Ryosei would be welcome.

....back to the topic at hand, I'd like to see the new MCA movers and shakers. Ryosei, with a better story and attitude. And art. Her art is awful. The really good art for Kitsune didn't start until Second City.
Tsuruchi, with a more established Wasp Clan to back him up.

As long as we have Mantis/MCA/Kitsune by this time next year, I have no quarrel with them not being in the Core box set.

in the AEG version (Kitsune) Ryosei hasn't even had her Gempuku ceremony yet, or is still fulfilling the associated quest for her father the clan champion Kitsune Gohei (Based on Nightmares by Ree Soesbee). Of course that could change by the time FFG introduces the Fox Clan.

When AEG decided they'd be better off without the Mantis, the CCG died. Do we really want to take that risk with the LCG? Better to throw them in in the first year, just to be on the safe side!
