Swarms and tie fighters need a helping hand you say? The First Order lander is not really a dogfighter I hear? Well how about a dirt cheap ship, lower than 12 pts with no shooting abilities, but with boosting abilities. Like small dirt cheap GR-75 flying around? Example of how it could work. It has a crew slot and takes Vader. Normally Vader only works on the ship he is on. Now he works on any friendly ship at range 1 for example. I don't know, I leave the game design to the designers, but I think it would be an interresting design space to visit.
First Order Landing craft idea.
I would at least give it a 1 red primary weapon turret. Boost and focus, maybe evade.
I agree an extremely cheap ship would be good, but I remember reading somewhere that there may not ever be a ship cheaper than the 12 point TIE.
What you would need to do is find its niche. give it 2-3 crew slots, and some new tricks.
Breach the Hull
Two crew slots,
When an enemy ship that you are touching reveals an maneuver, it must either discard a crew, team, or cargo slot or treat the maneuver as a red 0, then discard this card.
Another option is make breach the hull a talent, and have a seperate trooper card.
Stormtrooper.
Imperial only
cost 0 points, crew slot.
assign two trooper token to your ship. You may add Boarding Action to your Action bar.
Breach the Hull!
Elite Talent, ?? Points
When you touch a large based enemy ship, you may discard two trooper tokens, to seach the damage deck for a direct hit card and assign it to the enemy ship.
Boarding Action
action.
While touching a large based ship, you may spend a trooper token to a remove an enemy trooper token. If the enemy ship has no trooper tokens you may put a troper token on an upgrade.
you may remove an enemy trooper token as an action.

So some storm trooper is going to jump on the windshield of Poe Dameron's T-70 and cover up the title with his hand so the ship will no longer shake off target locks?
-No thanks.

Reading is fundamental.
Boarding actions are really more on the huge ship + level, which would be thematic and cool. Even Large based ships makes it a bit of a stretch.
While it is primarily something we may see in larger ship battle, given that Star Wars has buzz droids, Jumptroopers/space troopers, Mandalorians, and even jedi in bubble helmets, doing insane stuff in a space battle, it could work in the two dimensional abstraction that is the x-wing miniatures game.
Note, My intent is that you have to find a way to use these troop tokens. They may be for defense, some may be for attack. Each faction should have a way to use them in different ways. Also, with very few exceptions, you still can't use the boarding action while touching (Dauntless Decimator can, and that could make it fun.
You still need a way to coardinate actions with ships touching.
As the rebels are known for daring raids and subversive tactics, I think it could be fun.
Buzz droids
scum only, illicit slot
2 points ?
During setup, after obstacles are placed, you may place one trooper token on an obstacle, when a ship suffers the effect of that obstacle, you may remove a trooper token to deal that ship a facedown damage card.
Edited by That Blasted SamophlangeNo lie, I've definitely been wondering if we're going to see the First Order AALs or the TIE Reaper at all. The AAL is about the length of a TIE/sk, and the Reaper looks to be about the size of a U-Wing in landing mode.
Give me an easy way to get a Fleet Officer and Systems Officer on the same ship and use them both turn-to-turn; the TIE/br doesn't quite cut it for me so far, not for 21+points with such low offencive capacity. Not in the face of Attanni Mindlink, certainly.
I submitted the First Order Lander in this past CCL. I made it before the Aggressor was announced/released and gave it a title that allows you to take a turret(with a points discount) that can't shoot out of your auxiliary rear arc. It fits the lore and is a cool idea. Here's the link to my custom cards. Give them a look.
Do we really need a 5th multicrew ship though?
We have the Lamda, Upsilon, TIE Shuttle, and Decimator already. TIE Shuttle can do practically anything we want, except hux/palp and its probably a good thing something that cheap cant tote them around.
i'm all for more imperial ships with a random single crew, since we actually only have TWO of those (and the firespray...kinda doesnt count so make that 1), but the multicrew all seem to fall into the same boat of just being a hux/fleet officer/palp toting ship and not much more if anything more. But not a ship that is literally just a crew and breaks the "you" keyword as i could see that getting out of hand and spawning a ton of ruling arguments.
Edited by Vineheart01There is another option, if we don't want another crew ship, make a new trooper upgrade icon for ships. Modification or title to swap troop icon for crew. Gives a new option while being different, and a new mechanic that could play into a Ground War game.

Yeah, I'd rather see a ship that's more combat focused than shuttle style. Not sure what upgrade slots you could give it for that since Upsilon already has the Tech Tech System and Imperials don't get droids. Probably just one of every secondary weapon type? That should fit a ship that's a big nasty wrecking ball, but...
Or give it double system slots (no tech slots though?) and one crew, the rest are all secondaries? I don't know what ship would fit that though.

Two System slots and a Crew slot sound perfect for Krennic's Delta-class shuttle. No Tech means you aren't stepping all over the Upsilon's toes.
