"Genius" after Boost action?

By JRMan, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Short Version - can you use "Genius" to drop a bomb after performing a boost action?

Long Version - I was doing some tournament prep last night using Genius and an engine upgrade Nym. I boosted to get into bomb range and then dropped a bomblet. My opponent said I couldn't drop a bomb after boosting because I did an action, so I had gone past the "after performing a manoeuvre" stage to the "after performing an action stage." I feel like both come after the manoeuvre so I can choose the order. However I couldn't find a FAQ entry that confirmed one way or the other.

So what's the answer and where can I find it in case it comes up again at the tournament this weekend?

No. After you execute a manoeuvre comes before your perform action step.

Oh, no, no, no. That's not what the word "after" means in this game. It defines a timing window, which closes once you go to the next regular step (in this case the "Perform Action" step).

"After you perform a maneuver" means you fulfill the subbullets in the sequence (Reveal Dial, Move Ship, Check Pilot Stress). Any thing thats "after you perform a maneuver" happens now before you move on to the Action step. This is why Snapshot triggers before actions for instance. (Dont bring up PA as there is currently no possible way for that to shoehorn this specific discussion)

For "after performing a maneuver" it has to be before anything else or the window is closed. If you have multiple effects that trigger after a maneuver you can choose what order to trigger those in because they are within the same window but once you move on that "after a maneuver" opportunity has passed.

Yes, after your boost is "after a maneuver" in the standard meaning of the English word "after" but that's not how the rules of X-Wing work. Three full rounds later during the assign dials phase is also "after completing a maneuver" in the simple sense of the word "after" but obviously you can't do it then. Boosting first stops it for the same reason it's just a less extreme case.

What about Daredevil?

ACTION: Execute a white (Left Turn 1) or ( Right Turn 1) maneuver . Then, receive 1 stress token.

Then, if you do not have the boost action icon, roll 2 attack dice . Suffer any damage ( hit ) and critical damage ( critical ) rolled.

I think in this context I'd rule that Genius's "your maneuver" is your one and only regular degular Execute Maneuver maneuver, and not just any random maneuver you happen to execute. But it's worth asking.
