Building around the Lone Wullff

By gennataos, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I feel like there's something to Lone Wullff. He reinforces every turn so is guaranteed an evade result for each in-arc defense. C-3P0 ensures another one and Lone Wolf/Finn gives him a shot at another 1-2. He's also doing 4-die attacks (via Finn) with a re-roll followed by 5-die attacks when he's hurt. I've played Auzitucks enough to know they're tanky as hell, so I'm thinking this can be a ship to build around. He's presented as the obvious target and needs something appropriate to back him up.

Wullffwarro (30)
Lone Wolf (2)
Finn (5)
C-3PO (3)

Total: 40

I was actually thinking about him with Rey instead if Finn. Odds are you are going to roll a blank on 4 dice attack. If you don't, great, but chances are you will. and lone wolf only re-rolls one. Throwing Rey on is less points, and you can bank up focuses in the beginning, which can do just as much damage as Finn would.

But Finn is more than offense, he's in-arc defense, too. So you guess your 0 with C-3P0, roll your defense die( or dice at range/obstructed), re-roll the Finn blank result.

I've built Wullff like that to be a juicy, yet tanky target. He flies at the opposing list, begging them to light him up.

Ah, I see. Forgot about the defensive side.

maybe, but it feels like he's too vulnerable with that dial and having to be a loner. With those tactics you'd have to be very careful he doesn't just get overflown and ignored for 2 turns while he tries to get arc. He'd be a PITA to drop, but by the same token he'd be just as much of a pita to lay down the damage on anything with a better ps or solid repositioning.

I am pretty sure this only works well on paper. There are severel problems with this build. As Ralgon wrote too low PS and no reposition. Offensive Finn and Lone Wolf just means one more unmodified attack die. Its not fantastic for 7 points. Lone Wolf is so circumstantial, that it will only be in effect very seldom and when not Finn is worthless. Lone Wolf only works well on ships with high maneuverability and reposition skills and Wullffwarro has neither.
If I should imagine some build, that could work with this, then it have to be ships with high maneuverability and reposition skills, so they could maneuver to give Wullffwarro Lone Wolf rerolls. So something like Poe (PTL+BB-8 version), Dash, K-wings, A-wings would be my advice

I did a version with Dash, and like you guys said, it struggled, even though I had Vectored Thrusters in Wullff. The Lone Wolf reroll isn't enough help for offense or defense. I'm tabling the idea for now.
