So many questions for rules that are not listed...

By MechSpike, in CoC Rules Discussion

I posted a few of these over at Gameboadgeek forums, but not all have been answered yet. I figured I would post them all here for anyone else inquiring about such things.

1. Are there starting hand mulligans?

2. Are there sideboards allowed in tournaments?

(Chris Long answered 'No' to both of these questions.)

Here are a couple others that haven't been cleared up...

3. Is there a limit to your hand size?

4. How long of a window do you have to activate a response trigger? End of phase? I ask this, because you can't always immediately activate a response trigger if you don't have priority. So for instance, could i activate a response at the end of the entire turn, even though the requirements were met during the first phase? Or do I only have until the end of the phase that the requirement was met in to trigger the response?

3) no hand limit

4)responses are triggered off the most current effect. so if you have a response to something entering the discard pile then pass up your response window and the other player exhausts one of your characters, the exhaustion would be what you would play responses to, you cant go back to the last discard pile response window. atleast thats how ive always understood it.

Okay now I'm starting to understand it. There are separate windows where you are able to play responses. This article helped me a lot...

1 no

2 no

well some did for question 2 in the old ccg day but only a few i went to.

1. To precise further those answers : Muligans are not designed to integrate the rules. Tournament organizers may allow players to do so, but it's the sole responsability for the organizer.

2. There is a possibility for the player to use a side, which is mention in the multiplayer rules. To be honest, I did authorized it during the french nationals but nobody used this ability

Mulligans are a bit counter-intuitive to how resource management in this game is designed.

Mulligans in M:tG are there because of mana screw, where such is not present in CoC. I kind of dont see the point of mulliganing in CoC, but maybe I am missing something.

Okay so what if Struggling Artist is in play and is committed to a story. This causes Arcane to be done first in the struggle sequence. Then what if some other character is committed to the same story that she is, and it says something similar. I can't find any other cards that say this. But basically what I'm saying is...if two characters abilities contradict each other in play, especially when committed to a story, how is that resolved?

Like what if a card says, while this character is committed to a story, all other characters you control gain "Fast." Then the opponent commits a character that says, while committed to a story, all characters your opponent controls loses "Fast?"

it's not a problem, you gain Fast and you lose Fast so you gain nothing. + FAST - FAST = 0. It's like an effect give you a Terror icon and another one steal you a Terror icon so you gain nothing.

Okay that was a bad example. What if one character makes it so Combat is done first within the struggle series. Then another character at the same story makes it so Arcane is done first within the series....

Like when two effects that affect the same thing are constant....how do you handle that?

Whenever a card effect affects both players simultaneously, the active player resolves his effects first.
