Advice on modifying a CR-2

By ChikaraSubs, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Dear all,

I have a question regarding weapon attachments. One of the things I noticed whilst reading through Suns of Fortune was the last line describing the CR-2 Heavy Blaster Pistol:

"The blaster is usually fitted with a second under-barrel forearm grip to increase its firing stability."

This indicates to me that the gun can take a Forearm Grip attachment, even though it is not a rifle nor a carbine. Since the base modifier is made redundant, it could be changed so that enemies cannot gain a Boost on their Melee/Brawl checks when engaged with the character. The mod options would remain the same.

I would be interested to know if anyone else agrees with this, and if so whether they would consider the upgrade themselves.

Best not to overthink it.

There's a number of weapons that make mention of inbuilt "attachment" type components but don't include the benefits of said attachments.

The CR-2s foregrip is just a fluffy description, the blaster doesn't get anything special because of it.

I concur with Ghostofman; many equipment descriptions (weapons, armor, equipment, even starships) include fluffy little tidbits that might make you think there are special capabilities not reflected in the stats. I like to use them within the context of the narrative to explain particularly lucky rolls; your blaster's foregrip might have stabilized your aim enough to get that lucky (critical) shot through a bounty hunter's armor, etc.

In my experience qualities, effects, and in-game capabilities are usually spelled out quite clearly.

Quite possibly prior to testing it maybe did have it and they left out the benefit it gets, because they appear to tend to not overcomplicate the items with "custom" abilities , but with general ones that are linked to either existing talents or to existing weapon qualities. It may also have started off being more like a mini carbine and switched to being a pistol since it is more clearly able to be used one handed all the time, unlike a carbine which can only be used one handed at short range. In factI think the latter is more likely, and as a result the forearm grip, which may have been a built in upgrade.

Given that it would make more sense to classify it as a carbine with a forearm grip and move it to ranged heavy.
