I was wondering if anyone could advise me of what kind of paper stock and where to find it. I was planning on having them printed at staples or something.

80lb paper works pretty good for the small ships. Staples definitely can do it. Look for SirWilllis Tuck Hangars on google - you'll find them.

Edit 2 - This is why I have an editor after I finish my drafts...

If you are in America, look for cardstock at staples. I forget which weight i got but it wasnt the lowest as that felt like more rough paper to me rather than denser paper. Its what i used and i have no issues. I'd advise also getting some clear tape though for the glued corners, i seem to always have them get caught on something or peel back on their own. Havnt had any issues once i started taping the edges.
i'm eagerly awaiting him to finish his RunewarsMiniatures boxes since i REALLY need those atm lol.
Edited by Vineheart01Yeah I downloaded the rebel waves 1-7. What size do you use for the bigger ships like the ghost or are those printed on different sheets of paper.
Edited by teeg123456I print to paper then spray glue them to card and cut out. (only because i print at work as I'm a cheapskate)
i use 75Gsm paper but want to print on 220gsm cardstock when i get the change to update my ships (printing in colour would help me lots!)
What on earth are you guys all talking about?!!?
About a cheap / DIY way to store your collection, available online at:
The first set of micro
hangers
hangars I made I used either 120gsm or 150gsm but after a year I needed to replace quite a few commonly used boxes as the flaps had come away and were no longer useful. The best results I have had for replacing them is printing them on Transparency Film like you used to get with overhead projectors. You need to use an acrylic glue and probably a paper clip to hold in place until it is set.
Edit: The advantage being they are far more durable but also you can see the contents really easily.

He makes PDF format boxes you print, cut, and glue/tape yourself that fits the ship tightly enough so they dont wobble around. Its very good for protecting pointy bits and stacking ships on each other since it makes them boxy rather than bumpy/pointy.
I dont bother with the small ships because i use a tacklebox and they fit in the rows just fine. But anything that doesnt fit in the rows i have a box for so i can store it in another container better.
To give you an idea how good they are: i have 3 Bwings...none of which have busted gun tips
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Micro Hang

No worries. I googled it just to make sure I wasn't crazy.
I was picturing custom bases that looked like the gallows from the game Hangman, so you could...dangle your ships instead of using stems? I don't know. I was mighty curious until I figured out what the hell was going on. Haha!
So just got back from staples and got one of the downloads done. The one with the wave 10. It cost 32 cents each at staples. They go together pretty easy. I will have to find a way to get a nice clean fold though. They are super slick though. Nice work Sir Willi
What kind of sorcery is this? Do these work well? I'm just getting in to X-Wing and these seem like a good way to store the ships if they hold up decently. What kind of paper/glue does everyone recommend?
I still don't get it. :,(

They're fantastic. My collection was bursting at the seam back in W7. Now I've downsided to about half the storage space, and I still have plenty of room after W11. Plus, they're kinda fun to make (though the initial "make 8 waves in one weekend!" totally sucked). I use 110lb card stock on just a regular printer and haven't had any issues at all. I then took it a step further and painted on the lids to match the custom paint job of whatever was inside so I can easily find exactly the ship I'm looking for. As for glue, I've just been using a regular glue stick, though I believe SirWillibald recommends white glue.
Edited by KhyrosYeah I will reclaim alot of space with these. I might be abit picky about the folds but I'm going to try a metal straight edge to get a crisp folds.

I use the same 110lb/199 gram card stock that I picked up at a Walmart for around $4 for 150 sheets, only I use a laser printer. Works out great.

If you score them first, they come out perfect.

If you don't do both of these things, you're doing it wrong
I know of these boxes, but haven't used them ... for others that are still confused, someone post a pic?

Here you go. Here's my Imperial and Scum collection (excluding Deci & Ups which just get their own bin)
And here's one in action.

Like others have said, score all your folds first.
If you don't know what "scoring" means in this context (and there's no reason you should if you haven't done it before), it's simple. Take a ruler or something with a straight edge and lay it along where you want to fold. Then take a dried-out pen (or something else with a sharp-ish point, but not so sharp that it will cut or tear the paper) and trace it along the fold line, using firm pressure. This will crease your paper and when you make the fold it will naturally fold along the crease.
BOOM.
