Things you first think are awesome....but..... aren't.

No denying that. I've generally found that I can use PRS in such a way that the 'penalty' doesn't matter too much. Even then, 3/focus/evade is still the gold standard.

We are getting a little side-tracked I think :D
Scum got really, really strong after their meh of an initial release, no doubt about that.

All I am saying he should not single out a single faction for being tanky when the other ones can be as well.
This just leads to a lot of scum hate and other *** behavior regardless of whether the player is bringing the broken scum stuff to the table or not.

Mullets

for the record power creep is damage not defense

Nobody can reliably dodge a 5die attack unless you utterly whiff said 5die attack. Closest i could think of would be a tokened up Awing with Low nearby and obstructed for 4die + autoevade from Low. However, 1) why the hell would you burn a cruise missile at that point (since getting Fenn at R1 with obstruction is highly unlikely) and 2) he still needs to not roll a single blank on 4 dice w/o a reroll. Odds are he'd dodge most of it, but not all of it.

The true hero of the battle of Yavin; Porkins.

He should be amazing but...

I mean... the only Scum ships that can really defense-tank that hard are Fenn and Assaj. Which to be fair, has been a big chunk of the Scum competitive meta for a while...

And the former very much only at range 1 or 3. I've seen him bump and get blocked at range 2, at which point you can be all mindlink zen as much as you like, you aren't going to compensate for the protectorate's lack of the evade action.

Only to Scum. No other Factions can defend well. That sounds a little biased.
It is very ship specific, not faction specific.

IHave you encountered the Rebel Jankyard nightmare yet?

R4-D6 Biggs/Rex/DTF Lowhhrick/Selflessness R2-D6 Jess can just soak ludicrous amounts of fire.

It's enough to make me think seriously about fielding assault missiles again.

RIP Palpmobile. Imperials can only have fun for a few months before getting the hammer.

No idea what youre talking about.

Ive played imperials since i started playing, and ive used palp maybe 3 times and ive always had fun. If anything im glad palp got nerfed to get people out of the **** box that is "Only palpaces work!"
It is what was needed to get people to actually look at the SF. I got so much crap for using Backdraft when he first came out for "such a squishy ship" or "it has too many reds" - fastforward 2 weeks ive made my entire local meta absolutely HATE THAT GUY lol

And Palp is still pretty good anyway.

Me, at X-Wing.

I am planning on running 2 Expertise Ion Cannon TIE/D with Cruise Missiles and Stealth Device. Rexler and Maarek. Please tell me this is a really bad idea.

The Stealth Devices are the bad idea here I think. At most you're only looking at a single mod, and a single bad roll blows its value. Hull Upgrade is going to be more reliable.

Alternatively, run it with Engine Upgrades (you have the points) and enjoy your stupid-fast Defenders. Helps a ton with range control, blocking, and disengaging. I've done this a couple of times on Vassal, and it's stupid fun. Enjoy!

1.) Power creep is both. The reason why hyper offensive bull is the way it is is because of all the hyper defensive **** that rules/used to rule the game.

2.) A Palp Defender with Stealth Device can a decent amount of the time. IDK what the odds are of 5 evade results with tokens, Palp, and Stealth, but I've very rigorously and scientifically tested it out by rolling dice a dozen, 2 dozen times and it happens enough.

"Hey look guys it takes a lot of skill to play TIE Interceptors, even if I have already lost my Stealth Device all I need is a single paint on my 3 green dice in order to get 4 evade results."

Can Imperial players do anything but copy others and make Acewing snap together lists? Phantom reduced from super OP to just OP? Welp, it's ******* unplayable now that I can't abuse decloak. Palpatine and x7 reduced from super OP to just OP? Welp, now that I have to actually FLY with my Defenders and can't abuse Palpatine, Imperials are completely unplayable.

Crutchwing players, all of them.

Okay, people have joked about it, but I think this almost 100% confirms that SM5000 is ParaGoombaSlayer. This is the exact way he complained about Palp Aces.

... I wasn't joking. It's 100% him.

Mathematically, there's no points-justified use for Expose right now. (And probably not ever, but who knows?)

RAC is the single best place for it, but even with the non-cost to AGI, and even with the ability to exceed the normal cap on red dice, points are simply better spent elsewhere ... if your focus is on being competitive .

Expose on RAC relies on variance, swimming upstream against math in the hope of two or three really good rolls.

Nobody is saying it's not fun. Nobody's saying RAC/EI isn't the best place for it. All we're saying -- and the math shows it, time and time again -- is that "the best place for it" still isn't good.

I can't say its the best use of points, but Expose on Darth Vader pilot has done well for me the few times I've flown it. Get Vader a target lock on your victim, pull him in behind someone at range 1, go focus + expose, and you're rolling 4 dice with focus + ATC auto crit. I suspect you get better expected damage output than using predator.

Though this isn't the build I usually run anymore.

With a focus token, you've got about a 15% chance of 4 evades or focuses on 4 dice, and about a 37% chance of no more than one blank (which Palpatine can 'correct'). The evade token adds a 5th.

That means that if you're prepared to spend all your 'once per turn' tricks on a single attack, you've got a fraction over 50/50 odds of getting 5 evades (about 52% to be more exact).

More importantly, even without Darth Psoriasis and his evil dice Ju-Ju, you've got similar odds of fending off anything up to a 4-hit attack undamaged, which covers about 90% of the threats out there.
