This is kinda how it was when I first started playing. Yoritomo's alliance was a thing, but Mantis was still a minor clan. I was new to the game and didn't read any fictions yet, but there were was always a certain card that would find his way into my decks for his useful target removal...

I played during Emperor, so no righteous indignation here. I can't say I am super sad about it, it's probably better in the long run, but I am just saying at least your clan is around. Also I floated a few clans so I'll be ok long run.

I only played during Emperor, but fair enough. I hated playing against Unicorn as it was super non-interactive. I declare 3 attacks, send your defenders, now your provinces are dead, GG.

When I entered the game, I heard it more as I value Strength over honor and that appealed to me, not really the corruption thing, but I guess I didn't know much about story stuff, just read the description online.

Yeah, you know saying "At least you still have a clan" is kind of ****. I'm sure you aren't trying to be, but it yeah, saying I can't worry about something that has been a systemic problem for the Unicorn (Lack of anything to do in the fiction) because at least my clan is still around...

Fair enough, I hope that they are redeemed in my eyes this time around, we shall see. I agree that being outside the story kind of sucks, so hopefully they will get some fresh involvement. My second point was more that we all have prejudices against clans for one reason or another.

Great points - why do we even have a 7th clan? We have 2 great trinities with the Dragon / Crab / Phoenix with an outside element effecting Rokugan, and the Lion / Crane / Scorpion and the courts... Who needs another clan clogging the pipes of great fiction? Maybe the Lion should just take their lands back...

Besides - there wasn't even a Unicorn Kami in the beginning. I remember a Ki-Rin, but that is a totally different thing... Ki-Rin at least makes sense - who started inviting Bronies to court?
