Don't utter those words.
That is,.... just don't use that phrase in or near any mountainous regions of Rokugan.

#1- This is a new continuity. Beginning of a new era.
#2- It shows that Rokugan is in a turmoil and change is afoot.
Really sets it up for some potentially great storylines.
I was saying this up in the thread, FFG wants to set apart it's continuity, but also show that the land is in turmoil and ready to go to war. If we have the old guard hanging around, nothing will change. Also I think this helps us get a vision of the new Mono no Aware (sp?) that FFG is using, old things pass and new things rise. Characters leave and new ones ascend.

I keep reading Dragon clan soup. Maybe I'm just too hungry to be reading the boards right now.

Mmm some soup with mountain tuna.

I actually took that line about Ujimitsu as a nod to the changed timeline rather than any serious indication of creepiness or skulduggery.
...
Especially since Tsukune is now in a position to more or less know exactly what happened to him.
Especially since Hotaru is suspicious about her dear ol' Da's demise, and Arasou's death was a pretty clear-cut case of "whoops, hothead got himself suckered."
Champions falling over dead around the same time is hardly the biggest coincidence Rokugan has ever seen.
Edited by Shiba GunichiIs it cannon that Pheonix Clan Champions can commune with past champions? That would make for some awesome story potential.

By Imperial decree, cannons aren't allowed in Rokugan...

Note that at this point in time, the souls are anchored to Ofushikai (the sword), assuming nothing has been changed.

Sounds like that shrine in Mulan where all of the ancestors bickered about each descendants actions. I like it lol I hope Tsukune has a Mulan moment where she just leaves the sword home and goes off without it and they all scramble to find out what is happening haha

Only if there is a tiny dragon involved![]()
Well, since by the old lore she can summon it to her hand at will if she needs it? Probably not much of a stretch.
It's one hell of a ningyo/naga pearl-magic mixed with the soul of a Kami toothpick.

Hm, she becomes betrothed to Shiba Tetsu. It was arranged by the Council of 5 Elemental Masters as they felt she needed a strong companion to give her strength and guidance. She fled with Isawa Tadaka, who she always concealed her true feelings for. Shiba Tetsu is enraged at the offense of his bride to be fleeing his proposal and refuses to give any Phoenix aid in following after her. She has fled far, and without the aid of the Phoenix her ancestors reach out to their hidden ally... Togashi Hoshi. Tsukune has fled to Shinomen forest with Tadaka, and Togashi Hoshi is tasked with delivering Ofushikai safely to her - to bring her guidance and reconciliation.
Upon reaching her, they find a Shadowlands ritual in action! Horrible Oni are spawning in the forest, poised to strike at the Empire within its walls! Acting quickly, Tadaka, Hoshi, and Tsukune don geisha paint and robes to infiltrate the evil Kuni Yori's plot! There, on a cliff in the forest, Tsukune draws Ofushikai in a fatal showdown between her and Yori. She strikes swiftly, with the strength of her ancestors. Yori's magic is strong, but not strong enough... His footing falters and he falls off the cliff to his inevitable demise.
She returns to the Phoenix lands alone, where Tadaka find her... realizing she has harbored affection for him this entire time... They are joined in the temple of the Shiba with all of the Champions dating through history in attendance. This marriage of the powerful blade of the Phoenix and the new Master of Earth enters a new age of Phoenix where the Isawa no longer hold all of the power.

That's really cool. This is the first thing I've ever read that makes me really like the Pheonix.

You really DO work in sales.

Didn't Shiba Ningen do something pretty spectacky during Dark Fire? Like turning a field full of corpses into flowers or somesuch?

He turned an army of Yobanjin into flowers. Not corpses- armed men with weapons, some of whom were on fire, all rushing at him.
Quote
Ningen had come intending many things, but as he studied spirits of the raiders he felt his intentions fade. They had all the hatred and fury of the attackers at Kyuden Isawa, but in this moment of silence Ningen heard something that he had missed before. Deep in the heart of every man here was a core of inconsolable grief that wondered what had happened to their family, their tribe, themselves.
As the army charged forward Ningen took a deep, shaky breath and reaching out with all of his skill in the Void he gathered all the spirits together, holding all of them in his mind.
"Flowers," he said.
When he opened his eyes the field in front of him was carpeted with blossoms. The bell-like flowers hung down from short, thin stems, and they were white: the color of death and grief. As the breeze moved through them they seemed to bow and nod to Ningen, and he rose to his feet and gravely bowed back to them.
A'course... doing that basically killed him, but... Ishiken are no joke.

This, on the other hand, is the sort of thing that turned me off. Being too liberal with magical power in a setting tends to undermine the drama and trivialize conflicts. Call it "Elminster syndrome".
