I took it to mean that she was acting beastly, rather than as a swipe at another clan that they aren't really interacting with in story. If they were going for that, I'd think they'd go with "like a unicorn". To step with the right foot is to awaken the martial spirit. The reference was most likely to the clan.

It isn't stated in this story - but part of Tsukune's lore (at least in ol5r) is that she was trained in the Akodo War Collage after faltering as an Isawa Shugenja. I thought it was a call back to this bit in that she wasn't entirely at home with the Phoenix after much of her training was spent with the Lion.

You are right about her training at the Akodo War College though.

You win sir... The Shadowlands takes over the Throne and the Spider clan are back in canon. The Unicorn clan spoiler article has been replaced and bumped up in schedule to happen next week. The Phoenix will understand...
