Poe in an A-Wing

By Jadotch, in X-Wing

With the release of the behind the scenes footage of The Last Jedi, showed Poe in an A-Wing.

There is a good chance this will eventually be released in X-Wing. So do you think they will release him as PS8 Poe? Or would PS9 Poe be ok in gameplay? With Adaptability and Veteran Insticts he will have the highest permanent PS value in the game.

Granted, it is still just an A-Wing, with no other elite. But still permanent PS12 has seemed like a rule FFG has not wanted to break.

That would be the dream, Poe in an A-Wing with PTL and Juke or Intensity

Yeah if they do (and I hope they do- his ability would be just what an A-Wing needs) I'm betting it will be the PS-8 version.

Not that PS 12 Poe in an A-wing would break the game or anything, because at the end of the day it would still just be an A-Wing with only 1 action available to it. There would be far better things to put on A-Wing Poe. Like the ninja above me just posted.

I know. It just feels like a rule ffg would not want to break.

Juke + PTL PS 9 Poe would be pretty sweet. (It is currently one of my favorite Green Sqaudron Pilot configurations.)

Keep in mind too, this might be a "new and improved" A-Wing model, much the same as the T-70 is an upgrade over the T-65 X-wing. So the ship's basic statline and/or dial might be improved, in fact I'd be somewhat surprised if it were not.

if we get a new Awing model (i.e. tech slot) i wouldnt be surprised to see him in it.

Not sure if the usual perks of that would be worth it though. +1 shield and a tech slot for probably 3-4pts more. Awings being cheap is the main thing that makes them even remotely viable, and while Comm Relay banking their evade would be nice to free up actions thats a lot of points on a 2die ship (i would be surprised as hell if they made it a 3die)

I'm assuming/hoping that the TFA-Wing is named such that it can't take Test Pilot, both from a theme and a balance perspective.

If only they'd given the original A Wing its full designation on the ship cards, it wouldn't be an issue.

As it is, 9Poe is probably fine, even with his pilot ability, 3 dice with a single focus flip doesn't amount to much defence for 4 hit points. He'd need PTL or Intensity to get tokens.

+1 Shield

+1 Tech Slot

+ 2 Speed Red Tallon Rolls

He's not in an awing. He's in that mining air speeder thing.

That is correct, someone posted the stills here:

I'm so torn between hoping they explain what is going on with that red dust and hoping they don't because who cares it's pretty.

Ground game.. speculated?

tbh if imperial assault was a better game i could have totally seen them try and merge the two.

But i have never seen anyone play that game in my area at any store. I know 1 guy that has it and he claims he has 1 opponent that also has it but i have literally never seen them play lol

Well here's to hoping for the arrival of a new A-Wing anyway. :)

I seriously doubt they would introduce an improved A-wing and let it use the test pilot card... Especially if due to red-dice creep it gets a 3 primary.

although it is not an Imperial ship, so FFG might just do it.

But who knows what they're going to do to change the A wing for TLJ. If it's anything like the T70 and the /FO, it's going to be +3 points, +1 shield, +tech slot, +better dial... but that doesn't mean that's the case... They could give it a 3rd attack, or perhaps come out with a tech slot that's basically a missile generator (or an infinite extra munitions thing) that drastically alters the value of the 2 attack dice from the A wing. I could see them making a tech slot that was "when you're required to discard a missile/torp of 3 cost or less, don't." That would provide an interesting gameplay to the A wing - do you take Prockets and have infinite R1 5 dice attacks, do you take Cruise missiles and have fast moving attacks (but hard to maintain range moving that fast), or do you take IPMs for control...

Meanwhile, the only ships that can currently take tech are the T70, /FO, /SF, and Upsilon. The /FO and Ups can't take ordnance, so no interaction there. The T70 could be restricted by making it missiles only if FFG thought having infinite plasmas would make the T70 too powerful (or alternatively, they could make the tech also say something along the lines of "you may only modify this attack with tokens" to keep GC from being a thing). As for the /SF, it gives up its title to use a secondary weapon, so probably not worth it. Herm... the more I think on it, the more I like this being a good way to make the TLJ A wing distinct from the standard A wing without massively changing its statline.

Adaptability and VI don't stack.

Well, even if he is piloting a landspeeder at some point, we do know he will not be in the Black One

So, he still may end up flying an A-Wing in addition to the landspeeder shot (like Luke flew both X-Wings and Snowspeeders in Empire), or another ship. Maybe grabbing another T-70 X-Wing, /shrug.

A Wings are great, I would love some more pilots tho!

Poe would be absurd in an A-Wing

I have a feeling he may end up with the Falcon by the end of the trilogy. Great for the movie! But the last thing we need is 'Fat Poe' in the game.

Bear in mind it might also not be an "A-wing" for rules purposes (TIE Adv./TIE Advanced fashion); whilst it wouldn't surprise me to see the resistance A-wing, it might not be able to field A-wing Test Pilot.

Part of that could be the design behind the game. It is very much a boardgame, something that Hasbro has the rights (or had at least) to produce. The skirmish mode of the game feels very much tacked on, to possibly skirt any loopholes. Imperial assault is a very good game, but, it is very pricy and there are hundreds of other games that do the skirmish thing, albeit not Star Wars.

As to Poe in a a-wing or a-wing+, as we don't know anything that happens in the movie, and Lego hasn't had any leaks proving he flies one, I suspect it won't happen for a long time. FFG isn't high enough on the liscencee totem to warrent any inside info, at least not on the scale of Lego or Hasbro.
