What's your longest losing streak?

By Force Majeure, in X-Wing

Even if the forces I am RPG'ing fail to achieve their goal(s) in a game I did not loose, it is ALWAYS A WINN (for me) when I play wonderful STAR WARS X-WING EPIC GLORY... YAH... YAH... YAH!!!

Now... you poor dopes still play'n ace wing... may you die quickly to shorten your misery.

Starting playing in 2012, didn't win a game until 2015. Kept flying, kept shooting,

:D

Not sure about streak, but over the weekend of Birmingham Regionals and Yavin last year I was something like 3-10 wins:losses, and one of those wins was my very first game. That was a really dispiriting weekend.

I think I average around 50% wins. I really want a better way of tracking.

"Dispiriting" is the perfect word for it. It's tough when you bring what you feel is a fun but competitive list and you get your balls stapled to the wall.

The thing of it is I thought I was improving and then...? I dunno what happened. And now we have Nym, untouchable Wookiees and TLT everywhere (thanks TIE Aggressor). BUT that means we get to try out new combos (Intensity Poe anyone?).

Just keep flying, Just keep shooting.

I have been assuming that as this game grows, things would get more diverse and more even-handed. That is, with more options there would be an evening out of the playing field, and things would be more fluid, nuanced, and balanced.

It seems that will never be the case for this game. It seems that no matter how many ingredients are available, folks are just going to distill them down to the strongest, nastiest hooch they can.

Dirty Gamers... they do ediot stuff which is why I ain't goin in amongst 'em. I worked in a game store for years and got all of that creep-a-zoid out of my blood.

The issue is the Good Gamers who I consider Hobbyist mostly don't care to argue and thus mellow out the bad seeds. Why let them upset you? So they rather X-Wing, Card, and RPG at home with friends, and such like, and go to the so called FLGS just to buy their stuff and to play in an event at the store once in a whiles.

;)

Truth is many people just buy online and never go to game stores anymore... kinda why most malls are also dead or dieing.

Longest losing: right off the bat back in January/February 2013, 17 games iirc. I ended the streak inside a 2v2 where every person controlled 1 ship. My partner won it for me because, of course, my ship died early.

Longest winning streak, only counting local face to face games (vassal is hard to get streaks on): 19

in fact, our local website that collects activity has a bunch of fun stats to look at:

I have to come back to this.

Is it homegrown software, or something existing (or modified)? Does it require people to log in? Can it capture lists as well? I'm in the process of rebuilding from scratch the system we use for the league in Ottawa/Gatineau and I can always do with more ideas of how to do it!

I once went to a tournament and lost all 7 of my swiss games. Actually I got a bye in one round as I was dead last but I don't count it as a win as I played the TO during that round (just for fun) and he beat me too :(

My biggest losing streak was when I started playing at tournament. I suffered losses where I learned that bumping wasn't necessarily bad, but could be used as a tactic. I fell for a bait and switch, learned the rule of 11, and learned to never joust a tie swarm. This among other things.

Looking back at it, I don't really see it as a losing streak. It's more of a "learning streak" to me.

... Maybe four games?

I don't really mind losing streaks. (I realize four games is not a very long losing streak, but speaking generally.)

I mind games in which I basically have no chance. I hate those even in singles, and I had two in a row on Monday night, and it suuuuuuuuuucked.

25 games without a win.

Crushed in every game.

Why do I still love it

Your first part was true about the meta just before wave 11's release. Maybe Attanni and Scum in general was too strong, but for the most part it was balanced with a lot of variety.

But now with FFG breaking the game there is going to be less of that.

It's not the fault of the players, it's the fault of FFG's design team being ***.

Doesn't require people to log in.

Can't capture lists unless people are manually putting their lists in the comment field (spoiler alert, they won't).

Can display a friendly ranking (games played) or a competitive one (score based on wins-losses) or straight up ELO (I don't recommend it for X-Wing).

Works well on cellphone browsers.

@Klutzand me have probably sunk close to 400-500 hours combined on that thing so we'd be ok with licensing a space for other communities for a fair fee. That was the original plan actually, since we made it generic enough to be adapted to other 1v1 games (smaller trial runs were made for Android:Netrunner, Warmachine, Mage Wars). It didn't pan out because of life, but I personally think it's fantastic as is and we're constantly getting pats on the back from our local players who enjoy our resource.

No more then 10 games probably...

However, if you have such a long losing streak, something is probably wrong. You can do one of the following things:

1) Consider the way you play - maybe you are casual gamer in competetive environment, talk to your opponents or try to find different format then 100/6

2) Rethink your use of the ships - maybe you are not using your ships to full potential (I don't mean upgrade shenenigans) reconsider what are the strong and weak spots of the ships you use.

3) Learn to use the ships, not the upgrades - in my early stages in x-wing, I decided I want to learn to fly myself. I only played generic pilots to learn how my ships flies without abilities and shenenigans. It was very good for me to learn what the ships do and what are they capable of (see point 2).

4) Don't give up! Feel the Force flow through you!

in a row? Two games.

Since I only play with friends, maybe two games I'll go without winning. It used to be every game when the only person I would play against was a guy running top-tier Scum lists (pre nerf).
