Let's begin with an article about tilting, why it happens, and what we can do about it.

We're hitting up another store championship on Saturday so I'd expect some articles about that on Sunday or early next week. Currently on my "to do" pile are articles about learning from your losses, fleet deployment, and exploring the FFG tournament structure a bit.

This is a very interesting article!

It's funny, but the way I run my ISD Avenger today may be related to this subject, now that I think about it. When I first started playing I don't remember having a "leave nothing to chance" attitude, yet over time, some bad rolls and no small amount of frustration, I ended up finding myself using upgrades like SW-7s, TRCs, Screed and Avenger to ensure consistent hits. It's only been since wave VI released that I've tried rebuilding my ISD.

One important psychological aspect that you didn't specifically address (that I caught myself being guilty of in a game just yesterday), is that tilting doesn't have to strictly imply frustration. It's any time your brain is thrown off level.

Specifically, you can fall down a rabbit hole where you have a horrible roll at a crucial moment, re-roll the whole pool, and it's still horrible, and that Star Destroyer manages to limp away on 1HP when it should've been dead to rights. So what happens? Maybe you get frustrated, but maybe instead you just lose your cool and laser focus on finishing the job. So you turn away from where you really ought to be moving to try and chase the ISD, but in your rampant, unrelenting bloodlust , you forget that you're second player... so it manages to accelerate and speed away before you can shoot, so it's still not dead and now you're out of position, possibly costing you points you could've been earning elsewhere.

When I was younger (early teens) I was prone to tilting. The worst part, as I became cognizant of how much I didn't want to be that guy, was how hard it is to get back on track. Its extremely hard to simply "calm down". Its worse if someone else tells you to do it. If your opponent is on tilt, or indeed, if you are dealing with anyone who is visibily upset, do not be the jackass who tells them to calm down. Telling someone to calm down invalidates the obviously strong emotional response they are currently experiencing, and will pretty much always just make it worse.

Stepping aside a minute or two is great advice. Take a moment to accept whatever catalyst brought you to this point. You shouldn't wallow, but trying to just push past something can lead to it sticking longer than it needs to. It works for me.

Also, I find that setting fire to certain plants and inhaling the resulting smoke has a calming effect.

I understand people's need to do that... But unfortunately, it has a heavily detrimental effect on my health... Standing too close to someone who has recently Smoked makes my throat close up... Creates this terrible loop where, you were just tilting, and I know you needed to go calm down... But now you're wanting me to concentrate on the game as well and your coping mechanism has made me sick and struggling to breathe...

Its worse when a game is interrupted for it... I'll do what I can to tolerate it before and/or afterwards... But with some players, especially those who Lean over the Table while you're leaning over measuring... it can be rough.

Granted, I am a hefty outlier - its one of my allergies (of which I have a bunch)...

Its also why I havn't been able to leave my house for days, since the fires in British Columbia have dropped Air Quality Warnings on us, and I normally get everywhere by Walking...

But like I said, I understand people's need for it - especially given the circumstances...

Have you ever considered that maybe God wants you to join the Bionic Six? I feel like thats the message all these allergies are sending to you.

Time to crowdfund some robot parts!

And to think, I survived 28 years of Growing up in Australia for this....

Update!
