The Corusca gem in JoY has no relation with the Death Star. It's a type of rare jewel that is created in the gas giants like Yavin. Also we have no stats whatsoever so those must be invented, or you can use a normal ilum crysta as that seems to be the basic type of kyber crystal.

Yes, thats it. I wanted to give it Damage 6, Crit 2, Breach 1, Sunder. And a few sessions later she will be able to unlock maybe Vicious 1 or something,

Going by the old EU lore, a corusca gem that was used in a lightsaber gave it better cutting ability, so instead of the Ilum crystal perhaps instead use the Sapith crystal's stats. Given how rare corusca gems generally are, a lightsaber using one of these as the focusing crystal it probably shouldn't have the same default stats as a basic lightsaber.

I agree. I was thinkjng about better stats than the normal Ilum crystal but couldn't remember a good template to copy.

Oh really? Guess I mixed something up in that case and made a connection were non was. Though Ilum is actually one of the best crystals imo.

An Ilum crystal's main strength is that it's a generalist in terms of what it can offer to the wielder, making it suitable for a wide variety of builds. Though given one is looking at 7 successful Mechanics checks to fully modify the crystal, that can be a tall order, especially for PC builds that don't focus on Mechanics or don't have a high Force Rating.

The other crystals are more specialized, and better suited to some builds than others. The Etaan crystal in Endless Vigil is great for a Sentry or Shien Expert since it makes their Improved Reflect talent all the more effective, while the Lorrdian Gemstone is good for a PC that really wants to focus more on defense, and Sapith is good for cutting through Armor. Dantari crystals are solid for Ataru Striker builds, since it's an easy way to help recover strain once you gain access to Hawkbat Swoop.

Even a corrupted crystal is useful for certain builds, especially those that have or intend to go dark side, since it's an automatic dark side Force point and two ranks of Vicious for free. Of course, having that temptation of an easy Force point (especially when you're only rolling 1 Force die) can be fun as well, both in terms of mechanics and character progression if the PC is intending to angle for LS Paragon.

And then, of course there is my favorite crystal, the Mephite crystal.

Because the Jury rig equivalent talent is absolute trash and I've never understood the idea of picking up an outside spec that limits your force rating for a single talent.

Gadgeteer also has ranged light as a career skill, spare clip, deadly accuracy (+5 damage with a light saber is nasty), armor master, and more importantly improved armor master because defense dice can actually be useful against light saber (crafting your own armor could get you defense 2 and this on top of that would be defense 3, which is pretty darn useful and otherwise hard to get) not to mention having mechanics as a career skill helps when modding/crafting your lightsaber. And there's anot her talent to add an extra hard point to your lightsaber.

Or you could take Armorer a spec with a bonus to force and Supreme Armor Master, FA, reinforce and imbue item tinkerer oh and mental tools.

Never understood why Reinforce and imbue have a double penalty when commit is a massive penalty to Force Users as is.

But that wouldn't get you the deadly accuracy which is huge. Gadgeteer just has a great combo of stuff for a Jedi (or pretty much any combat character). So it's not about any one talent it's about the total package.

My own 350 earned xp character for a kotor era game is built as a consular:niman-disciple/martial artist (I'm reprising a character from a 2012 d20 rcr game, the concept is zen shaolin monk meets jedi who mixes martial arts lights aberration and telekinetic attacks into their combat style). Before no disintegrations came out the build plan was guardian: warden-niman disciple but unarmed parry, 2 ranks of parry, coordination dodge, mind over matter, plus everything that I wanted out warden except the force rating and choice of signature abilities. The force rating did make it a tough call. But niman disciple having a copy of the force rating talent (the only lightsaber form specialization that does) gave me a bit of wiggle room. For the eventual third spec I'm game mechanically torn between ascetic, force sensitive emergent, and sentry but I'm leaning towards planning on ascetic for narrative reasons.

Just buy both Gadgeteer and Armorer, and use the synergy to advance through each talent tree faster. Deadly Accuracy with a lightsaber would a-freakin-mazing. Especially since you're gonna be awesome at modding that lightsaber anyway...so a thousand credits and 5 skill ranks later, you're doing 15 base damage with your basic lightsaber
