I hope The Last Jedi core set contains

By Shadow345, in X-Wing

I would think that more likely than another core set, they would reprint the TFA core set and other TFA blister packs, send them out for sale a month or two before the movie hits, then release a heroes of the resistance style expansion box containing the main two new ships from last jedi.

We probably won't get another core set. I think we'll get a campaign instead.

All teasin' and no pleasin.' Nasty thing, shoo, shoo!

I think there will be 3 ships, 1 from each faction.

Imperial - TIE Advanced Interceptor

Rebel - A Wing of some description

Scum - No idea, not many scummy ships have been spoiled/seen in the teasers.

Scum - a ship that will get 3-10 seconds of screen time. May or may not blow up to TIE fighters in the end.

Maybe if they want to do a core set Scum ship they could release Wanto Sleamo's Lightwing Fighter.

We have a greater chance of getting a prequels era core set than a Last Jedi core set. They only released the TFA core set because of the big push for the new 6 movies and more importantly the new time period. Releasing a new core set for every other movie makes no sense. Releasing a new core set for each time period does make sense though.

We aren't going to see a prequels core set though. There also won't be a Scum based core set either, because trying to bring in new X Wing players with ship models they don't at all recognize is not good business.

I'm not expecting a core set for each movie, but from what I know (which admittedly isn't a lot, I haven't followed this game much in awhile), I wouldn't count it out either.

The lack of a Rogue One core set could easily be because it's a side story movie, plus it wasn't that long since the Force Awakens. We have a bigger gap now, and The Last Jedi is one of the main movies. Also, haven't there been some major errata and stuff in the mean time? It could make sense to refresh the presence of the way into the game while also keeping things updated. Who knows, they might even find something else to update that isn't innately tied into the movie, just gives an excuse to do it, like the damage deck last time.

The problem is FFG has always designed core sets to be introductions to the game.

If they were to make a new core, they could update the rulebook again, the damage deck, I suppose, and they could errata any cards for the included ships, but that won't be how they distribute sweeping errata updates to anything that doesn't work with the three ships included in the box because a new player won't even know what to do with them.

To date, that means that even if the new core featured a T-65 with a flashy upgrade that made them super-sweet, there would only be one copy of it in the box because what would a new player who just brought it home even do with four of the same upgrade when they only have one copy of the ship, you know?

A campaign kit of some sort might be able to distribute these kinds of sweeping updates because, like Corellian Conflict, it would have to assume that you've purchased more than just that box, but I really feel that a TLJ Core Set is both hugely unlikely AND not going to be the silver bullet that provides fixes for everything anyway.

(All that said, I'd be pretty happy to be proven wrong...)

Too late for that.

(but I still hope for a campaign box)

I hope it contains... click bait threads started by a known troll. Oh, wait. We already have those...

I've come to the point that I actually DO want a last Jedi box set for X-wing...

..Ground War

The new and exciting ground vehicles and starships. Included. In this starter is one First Order Heavy Assault Walker, and two Crait speeders. Templates, dice, included. Red Dust sold seperately.

Perhaps it will be the inverse of what we've seen so far

2 Awings vs 1 Kylo's TIE. Who knows, Kylo's TIE could be a beast/points sink type of thing.

With three factions now, not sure a starter set is doable unless it comes with six fighters, two for each faction. Then you could just pick two factions for the tutorial.

There were 3 factions when the TFA starter came out. Didn't change a thing about it.

There won't be a starter set.

I also agree, I think there will be two ships from the movie but not a new core set.

Hopefully we'll see a T-85 in TLJ so that could be an option.

I agree. I like this X-Wing concept art piece (by AdamKop on DeviantArt) as a cool look for a T-85.

I do like it but why wouldn't this be a Z-195 or something instead?

I'm assuming (or at least pretending) that the lower, shorter s-foils drop down to form the x-wing configuration.

Maybe there should be a pack with a Gunboat, Partisan X-Wing (with fix) and a full size Scum Epic ship. Oh wait... there would be nothing left to discuss.

ahh, yeah i can see that there's maybe a second s-foil tucked underneath. Hmm. Do we need a third gen xwing at this point? a modern short range z-195 would be kind of dope.

They might as well do a triforce set

X-Wing that was hijacked by a wandering Sith - 1 Imperial pilot + 4 Rebel pilots

TIE fighter that was stolen by Rebel - 1 Rebel pilot + 4 Imperial pilots

Scum random taxi ship that has 1 Scum pilot, 1 Rebel pilot and 1 Imperial pilot.

Or an E-wing.
