Tips for flying a B-Wing

By Mackaywarrior, in X-Wing

B-wing need asteroids, I know it's not fluffy, but they can barrel roll and move through tight asteroids, take HLC and Trickshot with named guys. Stay in the roids, don't bump big ships in the front as you cannot k-turn then. Roids are your friends, used them and dodge around them.

I usually make a very tight cluster near me then one hard and clear these stress in an open area, and keep 2-k between roids, don't leave them and shoot out of them with your HLC, until the enemy comes into them. mass fire on weaker agility targets, but stay in the tight roids.

I am all for naked ship flying. Just make sure it's the pilot and not yourself :)

My plan from now on, is to have bare-boned lists when I've never flown a ship before, just so I can see how I should fly it, because I'll NEED to fly it well in order to get any use out of a ship with no upgrades.

Recently played a list with two Alkmsdsldak Gunships and they did well enough with just Reinforce and 3 PW dice.

You can bump a large ship with B-wing, just need to do it at an angle so you can K-turn on their side instead of through them. If you're that good of a pilot, though, you're probably already killing them and don't need to bump :)

B Wings should live in the asteroid field, they can really maneuver well around it. +1 to the Advanced Sensor one if you can fit it in the list, TONS of fun to fly and a pretty good blocker.

If you're not dead set on the asteroids I'd try a different ship: Y wing with BTL-A4 and Dorsal Turret. I can't tell you how scary it looks on the table. Doesn't seem like much until your facing down two 3-dice shots and you can't kill it before it fires. Every time I've seen that thing its completely adjusted my flying style to AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Tough thing to get around, especially if you have a few other ships lurking about.

i went 9 wins 1 loss with this recently
4 blue squad B-wing at 22pts with collision detector
1 z-95 bandit 12 pts total 100 pts
choose debris fields for obstacles to work with the collision detector
opponent needs to hit 36 hull and shields to knock out for a 100pt win
try to fly in formation with the z-95 as a blocker if you need it
concentrate fire on whatever ship is the strongest or any large base ships for the points
if you're stressed don't be scared to do a white maneuver and keep the stress if it gives you better firing arc's
