Sneaky change to the FAQ

By MichalKP, in Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game

I posted the list of changes on my czech website and just today one of my readers asked me, where did i see the change in the turn sequence. He meant the combined declaration of zone to be attacked and attackers.

I double checked and believe it or not, its gone.

I thought i was just having hallucinations the first time i read the FAQ, but my friend had i printed and he checked for me. It was combined and now, again, it isnt. And without any change to the version of the faq. sneaky, sneaky FFG.

This was a misprint. Somewhere in this forum you can find an official answer that that rule-change (unlike the apply-damge change) wasn't intended. The declaration are Not combined.

Its not sneaky, they told us that was a misprint and would update it. Its in the rules forum.

If they change the faq they should change the version number. If not the version number is useless!

Its not a change, it was just a typo, it was supposed to be this way in the initial FAQ.

It was SUPPOSED to be like this. but it WASN'T. So they CHANGED it.

I have a faq printed out at home with version number 1.0. Now some guy comes to me and says: "Ok I have the NEWEST faq 1.0. Let's play after that rules".

Yeah. So what now. We both have 1.0 but the rules are different. When you change something, increase the version number so others can tell that it is different now.

If I would apply your logic to computer programs ALL programs would ever be version 1.0. If a bug gets fixed it stays at 1.0 because it was SUPPOSED to be like that from the start. Noone would ever be able to tell which version he has installed and which bug may be in his program.

so print a new one or write in the change and move on with your life.

Count has no "life" issues, he's smart and absolutely right. Change one letter in an "official document" and you need to change the minor part of the version number.

Seriously is this the best place to be ranting about this? Do you think that anything you say in this thread is going to have any impact? My suggestion is to send an email and ask that they update the FQ number to 1.0.1

Seems to be the common thread in the forum, whining. Its why I hardly come here anymore. AgoT and Heavy Gear forums, much better places to spend my idle time.

I guess I'[m just an unusually pro-active person. If I can identify something that is a problem (or that I at least perceive as a problem) I try and fix it, or at least bring it up with those who may have the power to change it. If there is a rule you really dislike or an action the company takes that strongly disagree with tell them, not us. Or do both, tell them, post the letter you sent, and ask for those who feel the same way to also write in.

Fair enough Dormouse, at the same time, what other sounding board is out there to get out how you are feeling and how others feel. I for one do not want to write a complaint if I don;t know if I am the only one doing so? I do agree that sometimes it devolves into simple whining, but at the same time, this is the only venue to find out what other gamers are feeling. Although I am speaking from the pojnt of view of someone that agrees with you. I am comfortable and have directly contacted FF staff directly about such things in other games, have not uyet for this game, but others are not aware of there options and your post may be helpfull for those.

I guess the question I have is who cares what other people think? If you have a problem with something, why do you need to sound people out? Why not just register your complaint. If you want to gather support then state your case and ask others to write in. Just complaining about a thing though... just a little too emo for me.

Oh I agree that simple board complaining is useless.

I guess what I would like to know is, are players sticking to the old rules, playing by the new ones, what is the general community doing, or ion other words, if I show up at an event and am face to face with a player I do not know, what rule set is in play?

Well if it is an official tournament it'll be following the FAQ. That is how I play, even though I would categorize myself more as a social player than competitive.

And for doing that it is important that people understand how important a version number ist. Thats was all I was doing in this thread.

I explained how important a version number is.

Because once they realise that it is important I can ask them to write in. Or where else should I ask them?

And to be honest, for a person that says things like "you should not complain" you are complaining a lot about other people not behaving like you would like them too.

You complained twice in this thread alone about the same thing! Before accusing others please look in the mirror once in a while.

I invite you to state your oppinion about the importance of a version number. Maybe everyone else does not care at all.

Contribute to the discussion (yeah, it's a discussion, not complaining). And I think that is what boards are good for. Discussing.

If you want to complain about others complaining to much (ironic isn't it ;) ) than please do in a own thread deticated to that topic.

The point that Dormouse was trying to make is that instead of simply complaining to be constructive about how it is done. By being more proactive and sending an email in regards to the "issue".

Sounds like I inadvertently touched a nerve. I wasn't "complaining" about complaining, I was asking what was the purpose of your complaining. I honestly don't get it. Like somehow three or four anonymous people agreeing with you, on a web forum that FFG does not respond to, is going to validate your beliefs. My posts have been why do this when this other thing is more proactive and much more likely to result in, well, results. Your post was not some well organized call to action, laying out the coherent arguments about the importance of a version number, and then beseeching your fellow players to start a writing campaign.

My post was aimed at pointing you towards a more productive direction, because a consistent standard for the version number would be nice. Ultimately, I agree with you. I disagree about the tactic you took as resulting in anything other than what it did, a break down and distraction from the topic.

I point things out, I express my thoughts on a ruling interpretation, but I tend to keep my actual opinion on a thing to myself more often than not. I was pointing out that your course of action was flawed. That is not that same thing as complaining about you complaining. If that was what I had intended I would have said something more like this, "What is it with all these people constantly whining and complaining about things? It is a game people. It is ultimately about sitting down, away from your computer, and enjoying some healthy face to face social interaction. None of this really matters. Stop posting your every thought on the most trivial matters and try to gain some perspective. If some faceless person or entity has so much power over your life that you have to come on the internet to rant about their contributions to a single hobby of yours, you already fail." That would be me complaining about complaining. But that wasn't what I was doing, I was suggesting a better course of action and then after, discussing with someone why people felt that expressing such thoughts in such an emotional way to a bunch of strangers would provide some sort of cathartic experience.

(BTW - the complaining about complaining is not meant to be taken seriously nor as a glimpse of my actual opinion on the subject at hand, just a fictional "statement" that corresponds to what I believe you think I meant.)

Apparently you didn't mean to come off as complaining, and you really did have the intention of getting people to suggest a set standard to FFG. I can accept that.

Not a single one of these long rants about who and what should/shouldn't be posted in this forum changes the fact that the "Official FAQ" needs to have an incrementing version number so you know you're holding the -very latest version- when trying to solve a rules issue. Is this really so hard to understand?

No one here is arguing that. There are people who just think get riled up about here rather than talking to the person who puts out the FAQ is fundamentally a waste of time.
