Jess/Lowhhrick/Nym

By gennataos, in X-Wing Squad Lists

The Rebel Junkyard discussions have led me down this path. I've played with Nym a lot and I love him, but he's soooo **** squishy. Selflessness-Lowhhrick coupled with DtF-Jess should be able to help with that, while Nym can also cover Lowhhrick's back. Without an alpha strike, I feel a list really needs a control element, and the ICT has been working really well for me in my MiraNYMda list. Any thoughts?

Jess Pava (25)
R2-D6 (1)
Draw Their Fire (1)
Integrated Astromech (0)

Lowhhrick (28)
Selflessness (1)
Rey (2)
Breach Specialist (1)

Captain Nym (Rebel) (30)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Bomblet Generator (3)
Fire-Control System (2)
"Genius" (0)
Havoc (0)

Total: 100

I couldn't agree with you more; Nym is very squishy! It's why I am personally so hesitant to use him paired with Miranda. Probably Biggs is the best way to keep him alive, but I very much appreciate any attempt to do so other than with Biggs, cause I'm so darn sick of Biggs meta.

I am ever so slightly unconvinced that this list has the firepower needed. Jess can certainly do her damage, but she benefits from PA so much. As for the Auzituck, I remain unconvinced generally about it's viability, given how hard it is for it to get rerolls.

However! If you really want to commit to the idea of not letting the damage be decided for you, I might consider using 2 DTF instead of Selflessness. Makes the effect last longer.

I've played Miranda/Nym about a dozen times over the weekend, bunch of casual games and a store championship. I'm not 100% on my win/loss, but it's somewhere in the 75-80% range. I feel like he's kind of built to die when paired with Miranda. If he dies and Miranda is in a good spot to win the game, I guess he's done his job.

Now, with this list?...I guess I won't know until I fly it. If they can get up in someone's grill, they can make bad things happen.

So, maybe this is being dumb, but why would you have Genius on the Rebel Nym? Since you'll probably be preventing the bomb from going off if it lands on you like that, are you just going to be using him to better set up the next round?

As for the list... Hmm. I'd be tempted to find a spot for Sabine if you can. But then you lose efficiency on the Auzituck. Not sure either way.

Maybe instead of DTF Jess, you run a more aggressive ship or an endgame ace, and force them to make a difficult decision? It's a tricky situation. And I agree, not sure if the list has the firepower to make up for what you're giving up.

Genius in on there because he's free, mostly. There's not a crew I'd rather have on Nym over the FCS system slot, so might as well take FCS and Genius.

Sabine would be nice, but it's doubtful my opponent would purposefully put themselves in the way of the Bomblets very much. That's more of an area denial mechanism to prevent my opponent from just flying in behind my list.

Aside from maybe the stresshog y-wing, I don't know if I can find a more valuable ship for the points than Jess.

I'm not sure what I'm giving up in this list with Nym vs. Rex and Biggs in a typical Rebel Junkyard list, but you guys have brought up all good points...just have to see it in action.
