Funny German Meta

By DerBaer, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

As you all might know, the German Meta usually lives in the past. Sometimes we're hanging back just by one wave, sometimes by three or more. And actually we usually have two Metas. At home or on smaller events (Game Nights) we actually play the same meta as you. The German Meta usually only is used for Championship level events.

But right know, we have a completely new situation. We have everything up to wave 6 plus wave 9, but not waves 7 and 8 ( including maps).

I'm trying to make a list for this atm. It's giving me headaches ...

What would you play here?

That is a weird place to be.

I'd probably try to go with a beast machines variant.

Bantha w Beast tamer 10

rHKs w PotW 9

eJawa 3

BT-1 w targeting computer 7

3PO w trusted ally 3

Gideon (temp alliance) 4

Hera or hired guns 4.

7 activations and I have no idea how that would play out.

Greedo is wave 7

what's in what wave for use who just started a year ago and just bought stuff?

Is wave 9 Jabba? or is that wave 8?

According to the internet, people only play Jabba's Realm anyway.

I've always thought the droids are decent with or without the new command cards, so Sorin Droids have always had a soft spot for me.

Rebels have their troopers (echos aren't quite as useful with the new maps) Chopper and Hera are fantastic

Bespin gets a bad rap but I've had fun playing the spies and their cards will only get better

Wave 9 was the droids, so you could have the IG-88 fix also. That's definitely worth considering

It's no Greedo, Obi, Jabba ... everything, everyone's playing right now, is not in. And no Hunter Cards.

The Bantha actually sucks. I tried a Bantha vs a Droids list, and Iggy and BT killed the Bantha before it actually did anything.

You can run IG but you'll miss all of the good hunter cards sadly.

I'd still probably play him though. Maybe something like

IG-88

eJawa

C3PO

BT-1

rHks

Hera

Gideon

Temp Alliance

Devious Scheme

Command cards would be something like

New Orders

Blaze of Glory

Negation

Hit and Run

Inspiring Speech

Hunter Protocol

Planning

Smuggled Supplies

Tough Luck

Brace for Impact

Plus whatever else fits.

Droid-based Merc squads seem like they'd be pretty good. HKs with Ugnaughts, plus BT, Threepio and maybe some Probe Droid pulled in via Jawas. Dunno about NU-IG, but he warrants some testing at least.

Other than that, the old faithful of Blaise and his Cross-Trained troopers would probably still be able to power through the VP errata if there's no Kenobi, Jabba, Big Boy Luke or Hunters to ruin their day.

Is Jedi Luke available? Sorry, the waves are out of whack in my head.

wave 7 would be Obi/Greedo/GI blister wave. 8 is the Jabba's Realm, with Luke, Rangers, Terro, Jabba packs.

The same thing almost happened in France; we have waves 1 - 7 so far, and wave 9 was scheduled to be out this month but for whatever reasons it was pushed back. I was actually rather looking forward to a unique meta at French Nationals next month that would include everything but the Jabba wave, but alas it is not to be.

Before I learned that the wave 9 release date was being pushed back I was planning on bringing an Ugnaught swarm featuring Iggy. The new IG-88 is really quite good. The lack of the hunter cards isn't even that bad since the droid cards are pretty decent, and you don't have to worry about losing Iggy to a massive hunter alpha strike (as happened to me at the European Championships). Having Ugnaughts means you can also reliably tutor Blaze of Glory with Devotion. Junk droids are pretty oppressive in their own right with Shared Experience and Terminal Protocol, especially since you don't have to worry about leaking points to Jabba or trying to stick damage onto trained Rancors.

Maybe something like this:

IG-88 w/ Focused on the Kill

2x e Ugnaught

3x rUgnaught

2x r Hired Guns

Devious Scheme

Strategy would be to play safe, rush objectives with the Hired Guns, force your opponent to react, destroy them when they get too close. Eventually you'll get Iggy's command card and can go nuts. Your opponent can't overextend too much in the first round to counter the objective rush since you'll almost certainly have the last activation with Iggy and initiative in round 2.
