The "new" Joffrey Baratheon

By Rozy, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Hej guys did you notice that the "new" Joffrey Baratheon from PotS that i basicly reprint of Joffrey Baratheon ITE but does not have a noble crest. The original one had a noble crest and I considered it as a very good card. Now I dont know. You would have to play a Small Council event find 3 influance or kneel some good noble like Tywin. Maybe they wanted a little balance but seem in contradiction wit hsome easy discard like new Arys Oakhearth.

What do you think guys about it, good or bad he does not have a noble crest?

He's defnitely not as useful, and actually slots better into a Baratheon deck which has plenty of nobles. But the biggest problem is the limited amount of Small Council events. He can still be good in the right situations, though, so evenif his usefulness has dropped, he is still a good card.

Now all we need are some 2-Influence providing cards.

Agreed on that. For more some USEFUL 2-INF providing cards.

I think that in LCG there are some good Small Council events. There has never been a lot of them in CCG eigther. And I think that Condamned by the Council is the best I have seen so far.

Yeah, I noticed it back when PotS came out. I'm chalking it up to a misprint (that will likely be left as is and never addressed) because I can't conceive of his ability being broken in this environment if he had the noble crest.

I don't know...I thought the original version was a bit strong. The lack of Small Council events is annoying, but maybe we'll see more in the future. And it isn't as if Condemned by the Council and You Killed the Wrong Dwarf are unplayable events in Lanni. In fact, I see those pretty frequently. I think the main thing is that Lanni has almost no real use for influence (strange really) so this would be the only reason to run the Red Keep or a sufficient amount of influence to ensure that you can get Joff's ability off. (Lanni's lack of influenced-based effects is an entirely different issue, I realize, but that's definitely one that I could bandwagon on.)

Of course he comes with a built in restriction on who he can target that's pretty narrow. He was good, but I wouldn't have said too good.

Say what you will, but I remember a melee game where I used a character's ability, followed by Put To The Question, followed by my own Joffrey to discard an Eddard Stark with 6 power on him to prevent the Stark player from winning. Being able to discard a character with power is a great ability, and I often played him OOH.

I'm not saying it isn't good.Just not any more insane than Put to the Torch, Bear Island, or what have you.
