Daring Heroes and Dastardly Villains

This line about Saw Gerrera is confusing:

"Since even the Rebels view Saw as a Rebel Extremist , you might suffer a point of reputation when you recruit him, but you can put him to use immediately. Since he goes straight to your leader pool"

Does this indicate a change in how leaders are recruited?

Sorta. It is a starting action card so you can get it at the start of the game and either pass on him and get another card or give up the turn/reputation and start with an "extra" leader.

I also missed that it was a starting card - that definitely makes it an interesting card. The reputation loss is a big hit & the 8 leader cap limits its power, but having an extra leader in the early game is pretty good and more importantly, Saw is pretty good for defending early captures.

So the green die is 2 direct hit and 4 blank? Or does it have a tactics side?

I don't like Krennic's Finest. A poor choice of "leader", and i really dont think empire needed another high spec ops leader (even if he is extremely one dimensional).

So wait how does the leader cap work? Does anyone know?

Logic suggests that once you hit the cap you are unable to recruit additional leaders. I suppose it remains to be seen whether or not you'll have the option of swapping out one of your already recruited leaders.

Not exactly, Ambitions of Power action card clearly says you can have more than 8 leaders in your leader pool, so I doubt it's anything as straightforward as "you can't recruit more once you have 8 leaders".

Is it just me, or does the Saw Gerrera artwork seem to be from the trailer prior to reshoots a rather than the actual film? He looks less grizzled and old than I remember him in the film.

I wonder how the green dice will interact with missions that allow all symbols to be used like turning rebel heroes to the dark side. Will we now have pools of up to 15 dice instead of 10¿

There are only 3 green dice in the expansion, but yeah, that's how I believe it will work (it was not yet explicitly confirmed by FFG). So you count all standard icons on leaders and roll 1 black/red dice for each of them (limit of 10) and count all minor icons and roll 1 green dice for each of them (limit of 3).

Agreed on Krennic's Finest. There is literally dozens if not hundreds of options that make way more sense than a pack of death troopers for this game. I'm not impressed with that choice.

I agree it's not a particularly inspiring choice for leader, but who are the dozens if not hundreds (literally) of other options that make sense in a Rogue One themed pack? Jabba is already a big stretch: at least Motti was on the death star and a cheerleader for it not long after the end of R1.

Maybe the nincompoops who watched in silence as their island blew up until Krennic yelled at them? Vaders carer on Mustafar? Captain nobody on some imperial ship in a random battle scene?

To use FFG's own words, RotE is " Inspired heavily by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." I don't think every single element had to match up, if there was a better option. That's probably why Jabba was included, since he was a heavily requested leader since the game's release.

The fact that not a single Rebels character or element seems to have been used makes me think that they may be holding out for a Rebels themed expansion at some point, so Thrawn probably wouldn't have been an option. I suppose they could've brought in someone from another form of media, maybe even the new canon, like Rae Sloane or Iden Versio. That would be kinda neat.

My guess is that they wanted a spec ops leader and also wanted more than one leader from Rogue One, so that is what they came up with.

Those wouldnt have been my priorities but not my game I guess.

I would take literally any other imperial officer with a name over the death troopers because the death trooper commander doesn't have a name. The whole point of leaders is that it makes things personal and is opposed to the grand fleets and massive armies.

This just feels like "And some death troopers."

The solution was simple. Give the Death Trooper commander a name. Use that name. It's not like the Death Trooper commander isn't in other mediums. They just need to give the guy a name or title or something.
