Is the description of Charge in the OP the official wording? That seems awfully potent. I would have expected some additional cost like, "discard the character after this conflict" or something.

Since without additional cards, the character will be bowed at the end of the conflict, then discarded at the end of the turn (since you can't add Fate to a character played through a card effect), it's not that different from what you're suggesting. Sure, it's stronger since it allows some cards effect like Good Omen, Reprieve or unbowing effects to have more benefits of the character but it would use a multiple cards combo so it's more situational.

Just note, that the only spells that don't require shugenja are Phoenix cards with 3 influence cost. Phoenix are assumed to have shugenja so just assume the spell includes the shugenja ... kinda like when batteries are included ![]()

That's actually a good point, by playing with suboptimal decks, you realise what the deck needs and can really appreciate how certain cards can completely change a deck once added.
Then again, I'm not playing the game right now to "evaluate the meta" or anything silly like that; I'm playing the game because it's SUPER FUN! Can we fast forward to November when I finally have this game for real? Please?

I know I'm repeating myself, but I feel it is appropriate
I'll start my own Meta! With Blackjack... and hookers!

To be fair on this point, with today's cards it has finally gone from the point of "Well these are the cards I have no problem dropping" to "Now I need to actually figure out what cards I need".

Well except for the lion's spell ancestor attachment. That also says it is a spell with no Shugenja.

I made a proxy for Ornate Fan.
I learned Crab are a lot better than I thought they were and I'm all aboard the Kisada Hypetrain. Choo choo chuda

Are they though? That game showed me nothing of crab's strength. It did show that Kisada is a monster and can win games on his own, but what happens when a crab player doesn't get Kisada?

But.......that is Crab's strength. Get Kisada in play. Lol.......but kinda serious.
I think seeing those extra little spuds to trigger sac effects with brings them together a lot better. However I still feel Kisada is more important to him clan than any other champ is to theirs. At least so far. Which is part of the reason why I have him ranked as the top Champ.
I think their strength is in their ability to crush super units and force your opponent into skipping on their high fate investment characters. The Dragon player said he mulliganed away Yokuni...which might seem crazy but it was probably the right call since a Way of the Crab would just ruin Dragon at that point.

I think Crab get more out of the revealed neutral cards than any other clan.
1) Charge - The Lion already have spammy cheap characters. This can help them get out Toturi, but they will generally buy many of their characters up front. The Crab have several bruisers who can come into play in one conflict, and then possibly become sacrifice fodder for other effects giving a bigger bonus for a temporary character.
2) Rout - the Crab have a weakness with political conflict, but this shows how an overwhelming physical force can win a political conflict for them. Other clans do benefit from them, but the Crab more than others - because they will tend to have higher MIL and lower POL.
3) Court Games - the Crab gain the least from honoring, but also can lose the least from dishonoring. The Lion and Crane already have effective ways of honoring their people, making this a little bump ahead for them, meanwhile the Crab have a way to dishonor mid-conflict which can help swing things the other way. Hotaru dishonored is just 0/3. She's not walking in to solo POL a province from Crab as easily with this card in the game.
4) Ornate Fan - Sure, there is the sword equivalent but I'm talking specifically about the new cards. Again, everyone has access to it but this is unique in that it can help bolster the weaker Crab POL. Being able to play this during a conflict and free means it is always valuable to have on hand. The Dragon player splashed to include Height of Fashion, but the fan was almost as effective and played mid-conflict. Very good.
Again - not that other clans can't use these too, but for Crab these really put together the picture of how they can win games, and how more expensive characters can influence a game that is played on a tighter budget.
Edited by shosukoSo glad to be proven right with how cool Reprieve is.
Was it odd to anyone that they bid 2 and 3? I would expect that, unless you NEEDED cards you would just bid 1 so you can steal honor away to put more pressure on them - especially as Crab. I haven't played yet myself, but that was the general feel I got.
Are people normally bidding 2-4? Or just 1 to prevent honor loss?

It's all situational. Crane and Dragon I tend to bid 5 and lower my bids as opponents low bid me. Both of these factions have strong enough conflict cards that you can pretty comfortably win any game where both players are max bidding provided you are better at playing the control game. Lion I tend to bid low 1-2 out of the gate to ensure my "while more honorable" effects are active early so I can jump on the board faster. From there I start incrementally raising my bids to draw more cards but still remain more honorable. It's a little tricky because you almost always want to sit at 1-2 more honor. If you're consistently up a lot of honor you're just missing value on cards. But the downside of playing so close to the edge is that sometimes you end up at even honor(possibly less) and risk not getting certain effects off. I also ted to high bid hard anytime I don't have effects that need honor. Gotta get the cards when the opportunity presents itself.
Haven't played enough crab yet, but they are the only ones of the factions that I seriously think can bid 1 every round and be okay. It would have to be a particular build, but it's on the table.

They probably wanted more cards so they could showcase more features of the game.
That dude on Show of Power looks like he's talking to someone with the high ground, and that guy just underestimated his power.
Joking aside, this video took me from "pumped for L5R" to "ME NEED TO PLAY NOW!!!1!". My only regret is that I didn't get to see the end of the game--especially with how close it was! That vague quarter-4 release date can't come fast enough!

Pretty sure the full video can be watched on Facebook still, if you wanted to see how it ends.

Did they finish the game? I thought they ended it after 2 turns.

Yeah the moderator lady whose name I forgot (I'm really sorry, moderator lady whose name I forgot) told them to wrap it up on turn two. The fact that they had to end early after an hour of playing actually assuaged some of my fears, though--when I first heard this game would only last six-ish rounds, I was worried it would be super short. Turns out it'll probably last a good 45 minutes--1.5 hours.

Elena, I believe.
Charge allows you to get a Hiruma Yojimbo into an attack, since it bypasses attacker declaration.
Kaiu Envoy fits perfectly into a "we eat people" Crab deck. Also, what is it with Crab cards all having their family name on them?
Court Games is amazing. It's not only useful for political decks, but would be good in a Lion honour deck too.
