For the purposes of the tournament, sure the Talisman is cheaper than Crystals and Cortosis weave, but in an actual game, this is easily countered by them being extremely rare and a possibly campaign arc to obtain one of those.

Yeah, Rarity of 10 (and the Restricted tag) does put it on par with obtaining a lightsaber or kyber crystal in terms of difficulty. But it's still cheaper than either. So it's an easy Knight Level item, or an item that could be found at roughly the same point in the campaign that your PCs find their lightsaber crystals.
Granted, Cortosis Weave is a bit easier to obtain (Rarity 8 instead of 10) and doesn't have a Restricted tag, but it is still plenty more expensive and takes 2 valuable hardpoints in your armor (and if you're Knight Level, it requires you to forego extra XP or a Morality bump in order to obtain it, whereas you can easily afford a Talisman of Iron Fists and still have plenty of credits left over for some nice starting armor or some quality tech).
9 hours ago, Richardbuxton said:The Cortosis Armour is tricky, its very expensive when you consider it only really can be applied to Laminate or better, usually resulting in a 14-15000cr single item. This essentially excludes a Lightsaber from your character in our little competition.
The Talisman is far far cheaper, 8000 plus the cost of the Armour which will be somewhere between 500 and 1000, so some of the cheaper crystals are definitely on the cards.
You're limited on the armor you use as well. It has to have 2 hard points, and you will probably want to have armor with decent soak, so the cheapest armor with those criteria (2 soak & 2 hard points) is the Riot Armor from Keeping the Peace, at 950 credits. The cheapest armor with 2 hard points, period, is the Survivalist armor from Savage Spirits (350 credits), but at only 1 soak it's hardly even worth the money saved.
so my character is all set now ^^
(took a bit longer due to a blackout thanks to a little stoorm on my side ...
@Darth Lectus I've found a little mistake in you Armor-attachment: the "Shield Discharge Pack" is an Shield Attachment not an Armor attachment (Wording in the book says it is only to use with shields) so you'll have to change that (since yout shoto is two-handed (interessing though btw) you won't be able to hold a shield in any hand.
Hey guys. Do you remember what was said on the O66 Podcast about Unarmed Parry & Brawl weapons? What are your thoughts on it? If you're wearing shock gloves or cortosis gauntlets (etc), are you considered "unarmed" for the purposes of the Unarmed Parry talent?
For Supreme Precision Strike and Iron Body, I would say NO, but for Unarmed Parry is seems reasonable to say yes. Trying to be impartial here since I have a brawler with said talents
But what do you think?
Sam said the intention was that the character used a free hand, ie not holding anything, to Parry by grabbing the opponent on their own arm etc. making it more of a Block than a Parry.
The thing I don't understand is that most brawl weapons leave your hands still able to grab onto things, it's just the precision you have that changes.
Perhaps a good way to put it is:
"Do you have an hand free that didn't try to attack during your previous action?"
So if you have 2 Shock Gloves but only attacked with one last turn then you can Unarmed Parry. But if you used 2 weapon combat then you where on the offensive with both hands and can't Unarmed Parry.
Another example would be Pistol in one hand, Brass Knuckles in the other. On your previous turn you shot the pistol so now you can Unarmed Parry if you need to.
Does that make sense? Or am I completely off the reservation?
Makes sense to me. Is it okay if I try and add a Brawl weapon to my combatant?
I think I finally have a way to randomly draw the pairings for the Heats:
Roll a d100 for each PC and arrange them highest to lowest. Highest is #1 seed. With a pre written list of which seed faces which through the 5 rounds of Heats it should function. So I'll spend the next little but drawing up the list of battles then we can do the random part.
Round 1:
Heat 1A PC1 vs PC5
Heat 1B PC2 vs PC6
Heat 1C PC3 vs PC7
Heat 1D PC4 vs PC8
Round 2:
Heat 2A PC1 vs PC7
Heat 2B PC2 vs PC8
Heat 2C PC3 vs PC5
Heat 2D PC4 vs PC6
Round 3:
Heat 3A PC1 vs PC3
Heat 3B PC2 vs PC4
Heat 3C PC5 vs PC7
Heat 3D PC6 vs PC8
Round 4:
Heat 4A PC1 vs PC4
Heat 4B PC2 vs PC3
Heat 4C PC5 vs PC8
Heat 4D PC6 vs PC7
Round 5:
Heat 5A PC1 vs PC6
Heat 5B PC2 vs PC5
Heat 5C PC3 vs PC8
Heat 5D PC4 vs PC7
Everyone roll a d100 for your character in orokos. If you haven't had time in the next day or so I'll just do it using your character name to speed the process up. Then we can arrange the PC's highest to lowest to get our fight list filled out.

As said the key thing is that talsmens are not a experiment fixture; like any item "equipped" on the character they can be taken and disarmed, a DM can nominate that a character stops benefiting from the talsmen if it's knocked from their person to short range; which either gives them the choice in continuing to fight/flee/whatever or give pause to pick it back up. Weave cannot be removed from a characters protection by any circumstances baring an exceptional result or having it removed from them.
Personally I don't have a problem. It has a number of restrictions that limit it in a competitive setting.
``1) Limited to force users; strictly speaking they are less efficient to optimalise on an exp level, they lack access to certain talents; deadly accuracy, jury rig. Thus their raw DPS output is manageable
2) Expensive enough to prevent taking a lightsaber. I mean, your basically taking the hits on your chest if you want a saber and this. And no credits to mod the saber makes it look weak vs counter parts.
3) It can be disarmed. Unless you stuff it down your pants and wear it as a questionable emblessiment accessory it is accessible. If it's in your bag it can be cut off; if it's in a pocket it can be yanked out/be knocked out. Unlike Weave it can and should be intractable. At least that's what I will probably use my abundant triumphs on. Anything that gives me a moment to get a breather.

This is very true from my limited PvP experience. In a 1 on 1 duel, those breathers can be really helpful.
